Just a quick boast I guess to say that after two long years of putting forward my argument and persuading the company I work for to start recycling their office waste, we finally signed the contract with a one stop shop recycling/shredding company.

Im so excited (as well as a little weary after all this time - but worth all the hard work). The bins are finally being delivered tomorrow.

I did a recky last week and just in printer and copier paper alone last year we purchased in weight terms 14 tonnes of the stuff.

This is the first (but I think biggest) step of many. My next task is using recycled materials, environmental friendly cleaning products, reduction of energy and water use, fair trade and organic food and drinks in the staff canteen, composting to name but a few.

Anyway, just thought id let folks know

I work for a firm of solicitors who employ about 150 staff now.

Luckily I had a partner of the firm on my side who is also very enthusiastic about recycling (but the hard work of preparing proposals etc was left to me, which I didnt mind doing at all).

Basically just kept chipping away. Once I found a suitable company they came and did a free inspection of the firm to see what exactly we would need, from that I compiled (together with help for my hubby - hes genned up on this kind of stuff) a report as to the benefits of "going green" and the costings etc. If you or anyone would like to see a copy of the doc we prepared to convince the Heads to go with the recycling company, just PM me your email address and I'll forward an edited copy to you, you can add in your company details but the basic arguments are already there for you along with some facts and figures. I can let you have some contact details for the recycling company too if you like

That's brilliant - well done.

Where I work we can recycle some paper but only normal photocopier-type paper, no magazines, card or envelopes. I would love to know if any of the commercial recyclers would take that as it would cut down considerably on our waste. Especially the cardboard.

I've just started a new job, after a year of being unable to work due to CFS. I'm happy to say my new employers are fully equipped with bins to collect paper, card, plastic etc. This means I can devote my limited energy to encouraging them to ditch the nescafe in favour of a fair trade brand of coffee.
