I love incense. IO love the smell of incense.

I'd like to use that incense that you make yourself out of herbs and resins, but every time i've tried, i've been useless at it!

So...can i have an explanation of the best way to make it? Or some tried and tested recipes please?

Hey fee :flower:
The base for a good incense and which should make up the majority of the mix is either Cedar, Benzoin gum, Frankincense, Myrrh or Dragons blood. You can use any combination of these main resins mixing them together or using them separately it doesn't matter as they all smell wonderful. Then you should incorporate a few Herbs and barks but in a lesser quantity than the resins. Experiment with Lavender, Sage, Rosemary, Cinnamon, Juniper Berries in fact anything you fancy really. The most important thing with making your own incense is the gums - this is what gives off the main smell and any herbs and things added are really only for their properties.
I have some recipes somewhere - I'll dig them out for you.

Dragon's blood?! And, pray tell sirrah, whither shouldst I go to slay a dragon and appropriate a measure of its blood?

ps. more seriously, I'd love to know where you can get some of those gums and resins to try making incense sticks

In Aus you can get some stuff from a chain of shops called "The Tree of Life", Wulf.

Thanks for the info!

I bought some Dragon's Blood, Sandalwood and Gum of Tragacanth yesterday. I'm planning to get some frankincense and other stuff too. hopefully, soon, i'll have a jar of gorgeous incense!!

Wulf: You can get Dragon's Blood and other stuff (like Devil's Fingernails!) at
www.panspantry.co.uk

I'm sure there's a few more places, and you can probably get them from Ebay too, but these were the people i saw yesterday, and they were really nice (and had the funkiest glasses in the world! They were like old-fashioned glasses, like you'd expect Dumbledore to wear!). They're relatively well priced. Ebay would probably be cheaper, but i worry about quality there.
