Storey’s Basic Country Skills - by John and Martha Storey
Subtitled A Practical Guide to Self-Reliance, this encyclopedia contains a collection of 150 different authors specialising in different areas of expertise. Covering almost every area of rural living this is a great reference book to have and makes a perfect companion to John Seymour’s Guide to Self Sufficiency.
It covers similar ground to Seymour (gardening, home maintenance, care of livestock, installing water systems, country housekeeping, farm layout, going off grid etc etc) that a read of both books on most topics will generally point you in the right direction. With so many topics included not all of the information is fully detailed but it should give you the confidence to tackle many projects as well as inspiring you to embark upon many more.
The book is easily readable, straightforward and full of useful diagrams.
