Memory garden... not really a Q

Wasn't sure where to share this - hello have been busy revising and gardening sorry, must catch up more often.
1st project :
Anyway - I was fed up of a bit of tatty grass verge on the end of our road, so I typed up flyers and asked everyone to join in making it into a garden. A few of us have lost loved ones, so I thought a memory garden with fave flowers etc would be nice, nothing grand in fact nothing spent so far, but just tidying, planting etc.
Quite a few said "no point the kids will wreck it" ..... result?? 8 kids were our main helpers and all of them mention to me regularly that the flowers are growing (they helped plant and water in seeds free from the newspaper)........quite ironic as all the so called grown ups who said it wouldn't work didn't help at all!
Lots of men stood in doorways as us girls dug and dug (how many beer cans and bottles can you hide in a pile of nettles!! answer - enough to make a stain glass window St Pauls cathedral would be proud of!) and raked and planted - but you know I don't care - they have beer bellies - I don't!! Grass cutting is great abs work!!
Even our postman says he's impressed it looks lovely - and I have convinced the council to plant a blossom tree later in the year - they couldn't believe I was ringing to ADD a tree, not rip one out!
Just found a HUGE planter in a skip so will fill that up this weekend too, it will add that extra jooosh, it was thrown out because......wait for it.....it was dirty!!
2nd project:
work have donated some cash, and we are donating the manpower to renovate the patio at a hospice, will add real value to the lives of those patients who can sit and look out on flowers - we all know the value of that. The hospice amazed me by saying how few helpers they have to tidy their gardens etc - so if you live near a hospital or similar ask if they need an hour a week weeding etc - it really can help! you and them!
Anyway - nice to catch up with you all - looking forward to the sun between the rain this weekend - am gutted the slugs ate my lettuce I nurtured on my windowsill! Blooming things will not get my beans too! OR ELSE!
