we have a lot that we need to get rid of - the fence it is attached to (ish) has long ago fallen down and the wire is easy to stand on when picking up pine cones.
Is there any way of re-using it? If we take it to the local tip we are charged for disposal.

Do you have scrap metal dealers over there? They might buy it off you.
Otherwise, could you Freecycle it? Do you have Freecycle?

There is freecycle, but I think it is beyond use as fencing material, it is very rusty, I suppose it has to be worth a try.

Old barbed wire is a pain in the neck. You can't really re-use it; and scrap dealers - don't even know whether ours takes it at all, but if so, then only cut up into small bits.

after I posted this, I did wonder if it was worth keeping in. we are soon wanting to put up pig fencing, and from what i am told, a line or barbed wire on the ground as the last wire for the fence is good. It doesn't need to take much strain.

It's always the way. Just as you make up your mind to get rid of something you find a use for it.
I got rid of a big bag of old electrical cable the other day. Now I realise I could have used it for training the raspberries in their new home

I hate barbed wire, evil stuff. Personally I won't have it anywhere.
