We had two pekin ducks, very well behaved they were too. They had their day tree and their night tree with their pond (about 25 metres away) and they spent their time between the two.
We got give another five at the weekend. and the bloody things have decided that they like my propagation nursery behind the garage, several plants have been turfed out of their pots.
So duck wars begins, at least I have finally found a use for all those rocks we have lying about, so building a small dry stone wall to protect my plants.

I didn't know Pekin ducks could climb trees!!! Mine are something like Pekin (white) but don't have the penguin-like upright stance.

Thankfully my veg patch is behind a duck proof fence and mine prefer to just eat flower buds to stomping over things - I protect young plants with plastic covered fencing wire bent into a circle and popped over the plant. That is normally to stop the hens from scratching them up but would work for ducks too I guess.

I meant they sit under them, though now since the new ones have arrived they have decided that the macrocarpa is no longer good enough for them and have gone for a Eucaplytus instead. Which was quite nice as we got our two first ever duck eggs yesterday. Any ideas on the best way to use them, I didn't remember duck eggs being so big, they are huge!

We've been getting 3 duck eggs a day for a few months now. You can use them in baking or they make a nice omelette, but I tried one hard boiled but didn't like it very much as the white has a different texture from a hen's egg. And yes they are big and sometimes double yolkers!

ah, that may explain when given a duck's egg years ago as a kid, I didn't like it.
Next problem is that the new ducks have managed to get through the duck defenses on the non-duck pond, going to have to re-inforce them tomorrow as we want to put fish in there soon

yeay the youngsters were cute, unfortunately we lost four of the first eight due to a mistake, then re homed three males . We now have 7 again
