Bloody cat got locked in the garage. Cat walks through oil in garage (lots!) and has now walked through 2 rooms with light wool carpets and it's like dot to dot.

Help!

this isnt tried and tested (cos i dont have either a cat, a garage, or a carpet thats worth keeping) - but it's what I'd try

lots of dabbing - Wd40 on a cotton pad to disolve oil, then rag in strong washing up liquid solution - dab don't scrub - then vinegar and a dry pad

Hmmm. Calmed down a bit now! Cat is outside and is staying there until she passes a strict paw inspection tomorrow.

Checked the house insurance (although reluctant to claim). "Accidental Damage: Not covered"

OH has found a few comments, including WD40 on t'internet, but the pressure is on cos we are off to Amsterdam tomorrow til Sunday

Not sure about the best way to clean the carpet, but I'd ask the vet if the cat needs to be treated for the oil it ingested while cleaning its feet.

Yes - OH was worried about that and has now cleaned her PAW, yes, one paw made all that mess, but there's no Stewart Granger she is coming in the house tonight!

What you need is a solvent that disolves oil, I wouldn't use wd40, cos thats a light oil.

Try white spirit on the stain, and than using a dry cloth dab as much off as possible. It'll smell worse, but as long as you get the stain out, eventually it will dry as it's volitile.

If you have that paint brush cleaner that might do, and after you've worked it in, you can wash it with water....what am i thinking of, the easiest thing is to work neat fairy liquid into the stain (if it was a dark carpet I would test a bit for fading), this should emulsify the oil, so that you can then wipe with a wet cloth.

I'm with Cheezy, you need something that will absorb the oil.

First blot with paper towels , until no oil appears on them. Then blot with surgical spirit on a dishcloth. Use as little spirit as you can get away with, blot don't scrub and change cloths as often as possible. Sounds like a perlarva but this really works Ive tried it several times with bike stains on cream carpets.

one site I looked at said use dry cleaning fluid, dab it on and allow it to be soaked up on a cloth/tissue...do not rub

Get rid of the carpet and the cat. Sorted.

Cover spot with talcum powder. Leave for a few hours and then vacuum. If traces of the stain remain, sprinkle a few drops of eucalyptus oil onto a clean cloth and dab the stain

Why would anybody make fun of you because of that? OK, nowadays we use the internet more for getting this type of information - but it's the same thing, really!

Only - I own neither talcum powder nor lighter fuel...
