What's the best way to repaint a lloyd loom chair?

Bought a lloyd loom chair for £5 at our local furniture recycling depot. Problem is it's painted gold. I don't want to clag up the weave - OH suggests spray on car paint - oh dear! is there a better way please?
Must be a durable finish! (indoor use but cats have mucky paws - so does the oh come to think of it! lol)

spray on paint would be good, but remember to use a primer too. believe me it wont clog up the weave. my sister's bedroom furnature stuff; table, chair etc is all lloyd loom style and mum did that with primer and pink car paint.
remember do it in long strokes and don't get the paint too thick. 4 very thin coats is better than 2 thicker ones.
don't attempt to use standard spray paint though, it will flake over time.
