Re: Any tips on DIY polytunnels?

Just need to see if I can get my hands on materials. I found those plans with great interest back in early spring and was all fired up. However, I tried phoning the two local scaffolding firms and one wasn't interested in talking to me, and the other offered to give me the "knuckle" offcu...

Re: Clean Energy - Renewable vs Nuclear....

I came across this today, which is an interesting, if inflammatory to most of those here, take on energy supplies. http://esr.ibiblio.org/?p=521 The synopsis is that renewable energy (sun / wind / water / volcanoes) are not viable due to a lack of technology to store and move electricity. Re: blackberries and elderberries for wine

Hi Linzi, I used this recipe for my elderberry wine last year: http://www.patch-work.demon.co.uk/#A I skipped the nutrient and vitamin B as I didn't have any at the time. I also left it in the demijohn until about a month ago (I did rack it a few times though), so it was fairly well aged - about 9 m...

Re: plum brandy?

I make a sort of 'plum brandy' using what's called 'white liquor', which is flavourless 35% alcohol. Do you know if this is available in the UK? We want to make a kind of Creme Framboise with all the raspberries this year but I can't find any clear, flavourless spirit base for it. Vodka was going t...

Re: cleaning demijohns and wine making for a beginner

Dissolve a kilo of ordinary sugar in a couple of pints of hot water and pour that lot into the demijohn I would leave the hot water to cool before pouring it into the demijohn, glass cracks very easily with large sudden temperature changes - I know from experience! There is a very good beginners tu...

The new leaf is probably the Raspberry's new cane growing. This is what the fruit will grow on.

Ours have been quite slow to grow, so I wouldn't worry if it takes a while. In fact, we only have growth on about 1/3 of our plants so far!
