Re: Contaminated manure

They say it can cause abnormal growth of vegetable plants. They also say crops may not be fit for consumption, probably because the herbicides concerned are hormone based. The RHS web site has a news link and offers some advice about checking the source of the manure you use. I hope this helps.

Contaminated manure

The RHS have put out a warning about manure contaminated with hormone based herbicides. The herbicide passes through the host animal (eg, cattle) when they are fed grass or straw that has been treated. They recommend asking supliers to confirn their manure is free from contamination. Has anyone else...

Several people have been hit and a lot of glass broken. If I'm on site I don't let them on my plot, the site secretary has even given th...

What really bugs me is that people who are quite well off and wouldn't dream of "scavaging" in their "real life" become obsessed with what others have and anything that might be going free; even if they don't need it! By the way, thanks for all the responses, it does make me feel...

I know exactly what you mean. We started an associaton, with a view to self-management, last year and the "power" has really gone to some people's heads. The question is, do we keep our heads down or stand up and voice our opinions; do we need the hastle with all that weeding to do??

"politics"

I think you are right, but it is hard to keep your head down when you see how some of the selfish idiots use a hobby to get a bit of "power".

Allotment politics - Who cares?

After about a year on my allotment I am very aware of a lot of back biting and self-interest; people using the association to jump the waiting list or get better plots, etc. What's wrong with people? This is suposed to be an enjoyable hobby, not a metaphore for the rat race!!

I want to grow Blueberries. Any HELP, Please

I have an allotment in West Yorks and the soil is poor (I am going to dig in manure in the Autumn). I want to grow Blueberries and would be grateful for any advice. By the way I would like to keep the cost to a minimum. :flower:
