Re: Growing Mushrooms
Thank you for the replies. It was the James Wong Guardian article which tempted me too! I may have a go of growing my own, but will not rely on being successful. I will let you know if it works!

Growing Mushrooms
Hi All, I have been away from this site for some time - since the website was being revamped, and it kept crashing on me! I am delighted to see that it is up and running again and that many of the old names are still giving their great advice. My query is whether anyone has any advice for growing mu...

Re: seed potatoes
Many thanks for your answers. I like the idea of living on the edge, so I shall try at least one row using my old potatoes and see what happens.
Thank you.
Thank you.

seed potatoes
Hi I have not posted for some time, but am always interested in what Ishers have to say, and their combined knowledge/advice. My question is that I still have potatoes left over from last year (charlottes). They are stored in a dark garage but are currently chitting away nicely. Could I use them for...

sunflower seeds
Hi. This year I grew a sunflower on our allotment, just because they look so pretty. However, can I actually harvest and eat the seeds? If so, is there anything special I need to do to them? Do I just place a paper bag under the head to collect the seeds - and then eat? Sounds too simple. I'd be gra...

Re: cloches
Many thanks for the replies. Hopefully next year I will eat more of my cabbages than the pigeons eat!

cloches
Hi - and Happy New Year to you all. I am fed up with pigeons eating my cabbages! Last year was not too bad, but this year they have practically scoffed the lot. What suggestions do you have for cheap cloches or other protection - which hopefully also gives easy access to the plant for weeding, etc.,...

Potatoes: first earlies - tasty varieties
I would love to know what varieties of first earlies you consider to be the tastiest. In our first year we grew Arran Pilot and they were delicious. We planted the same the following year and, although they tasted okay, they really were nothing special. Also, has anyone tried International Kidney (s...

Has anyone tried using soya milk? Would it work in the same way?

Re: Strawberries
Location now completed.
Thank you Odsox for your comments re mounds. That certainly makes sense and as we have clay soil I will go for that method.
Many thanks.

Re: Strawberries
Good point re location!! I am in South East England.
Re the mounds, I shall ask at my allotments and see if anybody has any pearls of wisdom! Perhaps one person put their strawberries on mounds, and then everyone else copied, thinking it must be the right thing to do!

Strawberries
I have talked my OH into growing strawberries for me! Having been through all the catalogues, I am still unsure as to which variety/varieties to go for. Could I please have your advice on the best tasting/sweetest varieties. Also, any advice for growing the strawberries would be much appreciated. Ot...

Re: Freezing - to blanch or not to blanch
I like the idea of salting too. However, I am now remembering about those lovely big jars which I threw out last year in a de-cluttering campaign! And talking about getting organised, it is about time I started trying to find space in the freezer! I recall someone once saying that proper freezer bag...
