Potatoes: first earlies - tasty varieties

Post: # 185276Post squeaky »

I would love to know what varieties of first earlies you consider to be the tastiest. In our first year we grew Arran Pilot and they were delicious. We planted the same the following year and, although they tasted okay, they really were nothing special.

Also, has anyone tried International Kidney (second early) which the catalogues say are marketed under the trademark 'Jersey Royal'. Do they in fact taste like Jersey Royals?
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Not even Jersey Royals taste like they used to, since they put strict controls on the use of seaweed as a fertiliser. I think that makes it a virtual certainty that a lot of the taste of potatoes comes from how you treat them rather than the variety (given that some are crap no matter what you do to them  )
