Re: Another rant...sorry!

If you're working 70 hours and getting paid for 35 then averaged out you're on less than minimum wage which is probably illegal, can you do something about it? Join the unemployed? I'll take little money over none What was she meant to do? Was she was meant to stay with her abusive husband so that ...

Re: Another rant...sorry!

Does anyone actually know someone who ..." just [has] kids like others have cups of coffee.." ? or who "... just keep having kids to get housing and money off the state and keep themselves in fags and booze." ? Personaly, no, I dont associate with such people, but I'm aware a gr...

Peak Oil

Not saying we're all going to die and the survivors will be living as early caveman, but a bit of solar hot water and your own home grown berries might be the difference between a bit and none.

Re: Geurilla Gardening, sort of

Can we attach pictures some how? Or is it safe for me to PM you enough of a postcide to get an idea of what I'm looking at? You arent going to steal a kidney are you? Already got some Raspberries I'm considering moving, but not sure how to propagate them, have to check my books. Re: £100 I was going...

Geurilla Gardening, sort of

Theres a large patch of waste ground being my house, about an acre, some trees, some weeds, some grass, some fridges, that kind of stuff. Seems a shame to have it there and for me to not profit from it, so I was wondering what I could plant there. I originaly considered some fruit bushes, but thet w...

Re: Angry mobs...

I believe in everyone's right/responsibility to work and I would certainly count raising kids (at least for a few years as work). Trying to be nice but, you pay them then. One of the problems with this is that many people who have been out of work/ never worked get trapped in this notion that "...

Re: Angry mobs...

"Do they even have minimum wage in USA?" Yep, a federal one and some states have a higher one. I dont know what its like to be clinicaly depressed, but I've been sat in the doctors for 6 hours before with IBS as the unemployed people with "depression" come in for their cocodamol ...

"But you've just proved one of the points I was trying to make, check your language..... there are WHOLE estates of single mums are there? where every single house is occupied by some kind of vicky pollard caricature? I doubt that, I understand what you are trying to convey, but this kind of in...

Re: Angry mobs...

No doubt I'll be in the minority here, but here we go. Me and my Girlfriend are planning on having the mortgage paid off before we have kids, rather than having kids, then complaining we cant work and that others have to pay us to stay home and raise them. It'll mean having kids later than we'd like...

Re: Help - Renting & owning land

Forestry land is exempt from capital gains tax and possibly inheritance tax.
Buying woodland then building a house there is, for all practical purposes, impossible.

Re: MDI air car

New technology in hydrocarbons was, in my view at least, a little bigger than the leap of carbon fibre storage tanks. "I confess I find your attitude a little confusing: given that you seem to accept that we cannot forever depend on oil fired transport, what do you suggest would be better than ...

Re: MDI air car

It would appear they have announced the tradeoffs.
50mile range, no safety equipment, glued together fibre glass.
Presumably it only gets worse from there.
Thats the TATA one.

Might do well in India, no chance it'll be legal in the western world

Re: MDI air car

Except air cars arent new, the idea of an air engine is 200 years old, rock oil was new. Realising we could crack it into smaller, more reactive molecules was a big breakthrough, whats the comparable breakthrough with air cars? Why hav they suddenly become more viable than they were in 1910? Hardly ...

Re: MDI air car

Dont overlook the lack of an ignition source in vehicles that drive around airport fueling stations either. The military uses a lot of weird and wonderful ideas, however what the military uses to ram a torpedo into a ship isnt that relevent to driving to work and back on the M25. A vehicle that can ...

Re: What small thing have you looked up recently?

Nothing small.
Been researching how to make woodburning stoves/water heaters and solar hot water play well with Combi Boilers.
The answers have been of questionable use.
