By the way where did Odsox see that you were an amateur radio person because I can't see that in your postings , unless it was on another thread that is.

Re: Container Gardening Category?
Hi All, I do like it when a thread wanders around a bit. That's a sign of good conversation. :sunny: Odsox, I've only had my ticket for a little over 2 years. I've been having so much fun with it that I can't believe it took me so long to decide to get my license. It's hard not to love any hobby tha...

What are your favorite NON-selfsufficentish books?
What NON-selfsufficentish books have you read and reread so often that they have become part of you? These are rarely the books you should read, but the books you can't help but read. Everybody has a few of these. What are yours? I would include Walden and Robinson Crusoe in my list, but both smack ...

Re: Work/ Self sufficientish conflict
Not sure my advice on renting versus buying would be helpful. You first question though is one I've been sruggling with for many years: is working for others and striving for self-sufficient or self-sufficientish goals contradictory? /Startup rambling and overly long response/ I would love to be com...

Re: Container Gardening Category?
Howdy MMM, The big differences between earth and container gardening that have caused me the most difficulty have been feeding, watering and temperature control. I knew feeding and watering would be more critical (I'm not using self-watering containers) for the container plants. What I didn't realiz...

Re: Things that make you smile
Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds have bugun migrating through. All the hummingbird feeders around the house are busy with these tiny feathered gems fattening up for their amazing trip across the Gulf of Mexico.
I can't believe how lucky we are to have hummingbirds in the world!

Re: Container Gardening Category?
I guess that's a pretty definite 'no.' :sunny: That's OK. I do understand the problems with searching for information. When you have to deal with presenting a lot of searchable data you can either follow the philosophy of splitting it up in to smaller bits or lumping it together into bigger chunks. ...

Container Gardening Category?
I'm sure this has probably already been discussed and I'm just not finding the topic, but what does everyone think about adding a container gardening category under the "If it grows it goes here" forum?

Re: Howdy from Alabama
Thanks to all for the nice welcome. It's been fun figuring out some of the challenges of container gardening. Although weeding and cultivating are a lot easier on my time and my aching back, the container plants require more attention to watering and feeding. I think the stretches of really hot days...

I found The Bountiful Container by Rose Marie Nichols McGee and Maggie Stuckey to be a great reference and surprisingly fun to read.

Howdy from Alabama
Howdy from the hills of north Alabama. I've been enjoying our recent cool snap. It's a great break from the 100 degree weather of the past few weeks. (That would be about 38 degrees Celsius for most folks reading this!) For a number of years, er, um, decades, I kept a nice, large kitchen garden. Wor...

Re: what are your top five films?
Everyone has listed so many great films that I've made up a really long list of what to watch over the next few weeks. I'm finding it nearly impossible to list just 5 most favorite movies. However, here are five I tend to watch over and over. The Seven Samurai - I seem to be to only person I know wh...
