Things that make you smile

Post: # 162981Post Milims »

I've had cause for lots of smiles over the past couple of days. The nice thing is that it's the simplest of things that have made me smile.
Yesterday my veg bags arrived (yes I've managed to find a really good company in this area! ) They were full of really yummy looking very fresh fruit and veg, including romanesco - which I've never had before, and boy are they pretty! I'd also ordered other stuff, including yoghurts but they were short of one of the flavours so they substituted it and sent an extra one free! They are a really good company and their service is fantastic - much better than the supermarket.
Then today the post arrived. In it was a letter from the above mentioned company which included a tea bag  and the only other post was a copy of a mag that I subscribe to. Talk about perfect - a cup of tea and a magazine!
On freecycle a lady was looking for jam jars so I offered some of mine. It turns out that they are to have candles put in them to light the road at her wedding in December. I can just imagine how beautiful that's going to look
It's raining here, but the kids are playing nicely on the x-box (not arguing just laughing! )
There's minestrone soup in the slow cooker and it smells great.
Life is smiley :flower:

So, what's made you smile today?
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

I made chamomile and lemongrass soap that smells divine, our resident robin had a bath in the water bowl we put out for the hedgehogs and I've lost 1lb after staying the same weight for weeks - these have all made me smile this morning :sunny:

The fact we could be in Hayle in Cornwall by Christmas if everything goes OK. We're having to rent privately but in actual fact a 2 bedroomed house is only about £20 more a month than the tiny one bedroomed flat that we're in in London!!

If being within walking distance (even for me not being able to walk far / properly) isn't enough to put a smile on my face, the fact we'll be about 10 minutes drive from St Ives is enough to make me cry with happiness.

I've only wanted to live there since I was 16... it has been *the* No1 goal on my goals in life list since then!

Alot of information has to be sorted through as yet and I'm half trying to be realistic and telling myself it might not happen and the other half of me is already sitting on St Ives Harbour eating ice cream and selling my jewellery to the trinket shops!

Jane and i were babysitting one of our grandchildren, she is only 4 and we were talking about how old people can get, and she said to jane "why does grandad have grey hair and wrinkly skin"through the laughter we said its because grandad worked in the woods all his life and she replyed " so thats why his skin is like the trees, dont worry grandad (as she cuddled me ) i will always love you" :hugish: makes you want to cry
Respect to all, be kind to all and you shall reap what you sow.

MMM has the rain and sunshine she needed!
It's sunny here and we are going to have a rummage at a car boot sale later. We don't actually want to buy anything - but looking at stuff is fun!

I've been turning stuff out in the bedroom. I found some photos
of my children when they were small, including some christening
photos.

I stopped work and looked through the photos and smiled as I feel
so proud of my four children who have grown up to be such caring
people.

The christening photos made me really smile as my granddaughters
are both being christened next Sunday :flower:

my eldest can say the most unexpected thing, in an Enid Blyton grown-up voice, and blow me away with the wonder of him.

my youngest can volunteer a song, in his tiny, sweet, angelic voice, that brings a disbelieving tear to the eye, as we know he is a devil.

In the most unlikely setting, in the middle of nowhere, a fantastic kiddie-venue can provide my over-active imagination with hysterical fodder to make me laugh for a whole four days.

The last point is made about the bizarre, yet great Llanbrymawr's "Machinations, and Rabbit World", which we, (well, ok I) turned into "the amazing world of rabbits!!!" which in turn became (in only-gay-in-the-village-valleys-accent)
"Marvel at its yers"

"it looks a bit like a cat...with rabbit ears strapped on"

"well. to the lay observer, yes, but marvel at its perfect tail. Like a circle it is"

"haven't you just stuck a cotton ball onto a cat?"

"look at its twitchy nose"

etc. Then no 1 son came out with (complete with jaz hands) "the amazing world of rabbits!!!"

My holidays just fly by.
"yum, yum, piggy's bum!"

That made me smile  and I've been trying out my best welsh accent to work out what 'marvel at its yers' means. Ears!

Being told by the kids that they didn't want to give the allotment up really really cheered me up, we haven't got down there for a few weeks what with illness and weather and it looked awful, so bad that I cried over it (in my defence I was very tired and I'm pregnant so I cry over most things at the moment!).

The fact that the eldest one then pulled up weeds for an hour, whilst telling me to sit down and have a rest so I didn't wear myself out (he was mainly concerned that if I was tired when we got home who would cook the roast?) also made me smile and made me remember that when I'm not pulling the tow oldest boys off eachothers throats just what lovely caring kids they are!

Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds have bugun migrating through. All the hummingbird feeders around the house are busy with these tiny feathered gems fattening up for their amazing trip across the Gulf of Mexico.

I can't believe how lucky we are to have hummingbirds in the world!
