Don't try fox, the green fat on it doesn't taste good and hedgehog is too fiddley.

Re: Growing soya beans
Hello, Mr. QB bought a packet of seads from RHS Wisley in Surrey. They were alegedly the variety most suited to the UK climate. However we couldn't get one of them to germinate. We tried all sorts of things, soaking, not soaking, windowsil, airing cupboard, everything. Each time we investigated the ...

Re: Can I grow ginger?
Hello, Mr. QB has investigated this. Ginger will grow fine indoors in the UK. However we don't have a long enough growing season for it to put on root tubers. We just don't have enough sunshine for long enough. All you'll get is a leafy plant. If you're interested in growing unusal things in the UK ...

Doom. Doooom, we're all doomed
Has anyone else noticed an upsurge in doom disussions lately? When I say doom I mean societal and technological collapse. My local library now has a doom section where you can find out about emergency preparedness, past societies which have collapsed (e.g. Easter Island etc.) and prophesies of the o...

I come on Ish to moan about them and then get on with trying to change them through rational arguements.
Thank heavens Ish-ers are out there as some sanity.

With a bucket and enthusiasm. Mr. QB makes his own and he always advises, keep it simple (he only ever uses water, sugar, fruit and baking yeast from the supermarket, no other ingredients), start with red fruits as they usually work best, and don't worry if it all goes wrong. You're bound to loose s...

Re: Warning: Oil supplies are running out fast
I think this is an issue which is becoming more visable to the general public. However I think much of the media attention is still focusing on the wrong areas, e.g. personal car use. Much more pressing is that oil is used for fertiliser and we just don't have enough organic matter to replace it. An...

Well done OTM. It looks like the ones they have in Australia. As for cat flaps, the **** cats can find another way. I odn't like cat flaps any more after my sisters's cat spent 30minutes teaching me to use one. I thought I was helping the poor animal. Turns out the cat was smarter then me and was te...
