Re: Growing your own oyster mushrooms?
I cut 1 inch holes in a five gallon pail with a hole saw and lined it with a trash sack, then filled (slightly packed) the sack/liner with aspen wood pet bedding with sunflower seed hulls that had been pasteurized and allowed to air dry a bit along with one of the half gallon jars of sunflower seed ...

Re: Growing your own oyster mushrooms?
Nothing useful to add, other than my pretty failed shi-take log. But I'm keeping an eye on this thread though, always wanted to give it another go. Looks like the fungi-guru just turned up... Here is probably the easiest way to grow shiitake at home other than buying a pre made ready to frui...

Re: Growing your own oyster mushrooms?
Thanks for the long posts, Charlie. I didn't realise that I would have to sterilise dry grass before using it but my bags of tightly packed straw (not liquidized) and spawn from a commercial batch, has not shown any signs of progress. Ellendra suggested using a bit of mollasses with the spawn. Have...

Re: [wonderdrug?] Trametes versicolor (Turkey Tail mushroom)
Cool, do you know Paul Stamets website? http://www.fungi.com/ I'd be very interested to buy some of his stuff. There are talks by him on mycology on Youtube and ted.com which are really interesting. Yes I recently purchased some plug spawn from them I'm going to attempt to inoculate my purchased do...

Re: [wonderdrug?] Trametes versicolor (Turkey Tail mushroom)
Cool, thanks Charlie - Have you grown any of these or do you take them as a supplement? I have grown Pearl Oyster mushrooms in my home in the past as well as Pink Oyster and Lion's Mane. Have just recently gotten back into it and have cultures of Shiitake, Red Reishi, Pearl Oyster and Chicken of th...

Re: [wonderdrug?] Trametes versicolor (Turkey Tail mushroom)
Google "mushroom plug spawn uk". There are some suppliers I see. One can inoculate their own logs much less expensively. For medicinal mushrooms you should also check out Red Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum). You can learn how to fairly easily grow these and many other species inside your home o...
