Howdy from Beckenham, home of the non sustainable
Yes folks
I'm living in white middle class suburbia who like the way they live thanks very much, and don't want any interfering hippies rocking the boat.
Just kidding. Well, sort of. I don't know what people's reactions would be once I really get my teeth into introducing sustainability to terraced housed middle class neighbourhoods, but I just know it has to be done.
I'm a mechanical design engineer by trade, an artist, having travelled round the world by boat, bus and train.
I've changed a lot in the six years I've been away. Previously being an advocate of renewables I now deplor them. Mainly because I know we can save way more energy through efficiency and attitudes than we can ever hope to generate through renewable energy schemes that have huge embodied energy & pollution footprints and rarely perform as specified. And the Germans are already doing it!
My goal is sustainability in the suburbs, because (being the majority) it is the middle classes that are causing most of the problems. And I count myself in that category.
I want to begin working around retrofitting housing. This seems to be where we can make the biggest impact in terms of energy use for the least cost and effort in the long run.
Time for action, less talk....................

Hi there and welcome

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
