Hi just found this thread ( I was looking for peanuts!!??!!), know I'm a bit late!!

Howeber, we have a Medlar tree or Mushmueller as it is called here. We made it into wine and it is fabulous I will copy down the recipe and post next time I come to the Intwernet cafe if anyone is interested.

Hi Stonehead,

Not sure what our girls are but they are long pale ones!! The meat is certainly lovely. It is dark meat with a good flavour. I soaked the salted bit and used it with some shoulder and some belly and made some superb pork pies. Very chuffed! So all is not lost.

I think the problem with your salty bacon is the modern palette. The sh*te that is mass produces here (not sure about with you!) is tasteless pap, with ADDED flavourings, mostly beef extract.....
