Re: Market Gardens

This is a good idea, local ethical flowers are all the fashion now. Don't forget flowers and seed heads for drying to extend the season. Approach floristry courses with caution, they are probably based on imported commercially available flowers and not home grown ones. I used to be a florist (and ha...

Aga free to collector

We have decided not to keep the aga that came with the house. It's a two oven deluxe cream lump of metal. It's rusty, converted to gas (not sure if it's safe) and needs restoring. Our doors and drive are wide enough for removal whole but the lane is steep and narrow (transit largest van to access). ...

Ragwort and livestock

The field is empty and neglected at the moment but I would like to let it out cheap or free to somone with pigs or goats to help clear the brambles etc, trouble is I don't want to poison anyones livestock. We only spotted a couple of p...

Re: composting tea bags

I've always used loose leaf tea because it tastes so good. I hadn't realised about the plastic in the bags or thought about the extra process in production, infact I started to compost the leaves because plants love black tea. Environmental awareness came later. Another advantage is that while its b...

Re: wood burning cooker

Thanks for all your feed back. This thing is an aga as there is label on the front of it if I was a bit techie I could have inc a picture. Also a little hole has been cut into the firebox door to accomodate the gas pipes from a box thing/fitting on the side. Some of the gas fittings look like they a...

wood burning cooker

Hi, does any one have any experience of solid fuel stoves? How much work are they, I believe there is weekly cleaning out of flues or vents involved. I have an old Aga in the kitchen of our new house, this is rusty and rancid (I don't think it's been heating up properly), it's been converted to gas ...

It will come apart for occasional transport in a car, but not quick fold like a buggy. There is a rain cover and sunshade, all covers are ...

Help - Renting & owning land

Hi everyone, Sorry for not logging on for a few years but now I have a problem and though some one might be able to give me a few pointers. I'm thinking of buying a field to rent out (ie horses) or woodland with the view of moving in the next couple of years and having my own fuel for a wood burning...

I used a sythe in my brothers garden (meadow area)in France, it was lovely to use and really easy. I fell in love with this tool. I have thistles and nettles on the "wild" part of my allotment, will a slasher do the job? I (read my husband) want to use an inexpensive hand tool to keep them...

:( I am still stunned that people feed other peoples animals! I just wouldn't expect strangers to walk into my garden and feed mine. These types just make me angry (and I've not got to put up with them on my property). On a happier note SCOTLAND: We've been intending to go north for several years. S...

Well what can I say? I'm a city dweller who likes walking in the countryside and visiting standing stones. I also know that I don't know anything about farming or livestock, country people do, so I leave it to them. Your experience just makes me cringe, it gives us responsible folk a very bad reputa...
