Hi everyone,
Sorry for not logging on for a few years but now I have a problem and though some one might be able to give me a few pointers. I'm thinking of buying a field to rent out (ie horses) or woodland with the view of moving in the next couple of years and having my own fuel for a wood burning fire. The problem is that I don't know the law and taxes involved. My husband has found out some things form the internet (public liability insurance, taxes on wood) but we're worried that there's things that we don't know about to even look up! Any recommended books or web sites would be most welcome.
Oh yes any other ideas for making a living from the countryside so we can escape the city also welcome...cider orchard is one thought!
Thanks Lucy Robyn.

Forestry land is exempt from capital gains tax and possibly inheritance tax.
Buying woodland then building a house there is, for all practical purposes, impossible.

Oddly enough, I've just finished reading the Woodland Way by Ben Laws and he has an entire chapter devoted to this very subject. Needless to say it's too complicated for me to be able to give reply here, so I recommend getting hold of a copy.
