Re: jets and the jetstream

Well I don't know if the weather will improve or not, but right now is 16 degrees C on a 13th July in Central France and I have never seen so much rain at this time of year!! I just cannot believe I told my husband that the weather would be better in France... We moved there end of March and we prob...

Re: Wood burning cooking heating hot water stove

Hi Delineator, Welcome to the forum! We have the same idea than you, but in France this time and we are finding everything we look at way too expensive for our pockets... And looking for a second hand wood burner with heating water facilities in France is proving an absolute headache, so I doubt we ...

Re: Interesting News from Holland

Well I must say I do everything in reverse... I always look at things, sniff them and use them. Only if it looks or smells funny will I even look at any dates. And the only time I had food poisoning in the last 41 years is when I ate some shell fish in a restaurant...

Re: Moving country to be self sufficient

Many thanks everybody for the various solutions for the car insurance. I will discuss this with Mr hubby and we will see what is our best option for now and for later. At least it looks like there are a few solutions. We will have to see which one is the cheapest and the most practical for us. :icon...

Re: Moving country to be self sufficient

But they'll know the moment he opens his mouth  - your problem (and mine when I don't understand something in England) is that the 'natives' look at you as if you have been on Mars because you speak like them so you do have to keep on muttering about "I've been out of the country.......&q...

Re: Moving country to be self sufficient

Yeah, I think you got it spot on... I feel a tad inadequate at the moment and I know I will have to explain to every single pen-pusher down there that I have not lived in France for 20 years so they need to explain to me how it works.... Otherwise they will probably think I am taking the mickey.... ...

Re: Moving country to be self sufficient

Not sleeping well, so here I am checking this post at 2.30 am.... Many thanks, MMM and Riff Raff. We have a redirection on our mail for the next 3 months after we leave on 23rd March, so maybe that would at least cover us for the next 3 months with our UK insurance as my husband thinks (the insuranc...

I re-read my post from 2010 about us moving back to France and planning to do it in 2012... Well actually we brought the all thing forward to 2011 and put the house for sa...

Re: Ground Source heating systems - working for you?

Hi Richard,
Hubby and I are looking into this for when we move to France. Not much I can say at this point, but based on what we saw online, it does work in Sweden, so I suspect it should work in Scotland. After that, for the details, hopefully someone who has done it here can tell you more.

Re: Food prices to double

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the western world wastes enough food each year to feed the rest of the world. So in theory, we could all slim down and that might go some way towards balancing out population growth - but easier said than done! Quite right, maybe then the past date on fruit...
