I did a bold thing today. I took the train to southend. Wasn't as hard as I'd imagined 'cos even though there's no lifts, there's a secondary entrance to the station so I can get to any platform without steps; woohoo for the buggy days lol! AND its turned out to be easier, quicker and cheaper for us all to go to the beach by train rather than car, roll on summer! Because of our Rpivilage rate cards the train fare is only £1.50 return, it only takes about 20 mins and there's no hassle of trying to find a parking space and then having to walk further to the beach than if we had taken the train.
Plus, Southend has a PastTimes store which just made me happy as larry.
Soph and I were wandering down the high street when she noticed where we were and shouted "mummy! look! seaside!" at the top of her voice.
We ate chips on the beach; in the pouring rain. she played in the sand; in the pouring rain. We took a walk along the promenade; in the drizzle, and finally did a bit of shopping looking like drowned rats before setting home again.
I am now tired as hell from the awalking, but soph's on a high which is kind of rubbing off on me lol!

Woohoo for public transport...
If I wanted to get to the beach by public transport from here, I'd have to walk 4 miles to the nearest village; wait for the bus to the nearest small town (I think there are two a day); wait for the bus to the bigger town that's actually on the coast. Mmmhh. Probably a two day trip!
