just wait till you visit the shops again, they do garlic spam now made in france so not only do we have the war and spam we now have THE BLOODY FRENCH as well...... ( garlic spam isn't really made in france...)

Spam, Powdered Eggs, the stuff of memories of life as a lad, no meat no sweets and if you did not have garden not a lot of anything. I still have my ration book and there is still a few coupons in it. I saw my first banana at the age of 14 and had never eaten steak until I was 18yrs old. So a spam fritter and scramble eggs and slice of yesterdays bread was a feast to a hungry lad anyway it was probably better than M D's

There is a really interesting book called 'They Can't Ration These' by Vicomte de Maudit. It was written in 1940 and tells you how you can get food for free and what to do with it when you have it. It also has recipes for home cures, soap, alcoholic drinks etc etc. It even tells you how to cook a hedgehog and what to do with road kill! I reckon it'd be just up the alley of some of the more 'adventurous' members of ish.

I got an original edition from a boot sale for 50c but I loaned it to my brother and that's the last I saw of it
