Hello from sunny Liverpool!

Post: # 104709Post Sian »

I'm Sian, I'm a vet student. I'm not as selfsufficient as I would like to be one day, as I live in a flat with a tiny back-yard, but I suppose I am selfsufficientish!

I worked on organic farms in Germany in my gap year (with WWOOF) and one family in particular really inspired me. They grew all their own veg, and had chickens, bees, 2 jersey cows and a flock of millk sheep, as well as a compost toilet and a wood-burning stove. It was a big culture shock for me, but I ended up having a fantastic time.. but I can't afford a bit of land just yet.

I'm enthusiastically container gardenering in the back yard-have plum and bay trees, some raspberry canes, tomato plants, loads of lettuce and practically every culinary herb going! And lots of kale and perpetual spinach seedlings.

I cycle to uni and am building a wormery, although my 2 rabbits eat all the green wastage.

I look forward to getting lots of tips from everyone, and can hopefully share some knowledge for the livestock people as a budding vet!

Hello Sian - welcome to the world of Ish!

You watch out - I may have questions to you as a vet student... Are you going for large animals or small?

Hello once more everyone!

Ina, I really don't know what kind of vet I'm going to turn into just yet. I like both, we have to learn both, and I've still got three years to decide..

Hello Sian, Sounds like your doing quite a bit. Wombat was always kicking himself that he hadn't done enough and I kept saying one day at a time or you'll give yourself a stress attack. Whatever our circumstances at least we are working at it and that is what matters.. I haven't been on much and am just getting started again and hope I can help in some way. Even if its only a recipe or two. Hello to everyone new and old. :flower:
Always look for the positive.
