I had heard that composting toilets don't smell.. and would consider one myself if was doing any new build/renovations.

If I won the lottery, I would leave the UK.
Then I would have a house built that was totally green. A million solar panels (yes I would be in Australia) and make as much energy as I could muster to run the house.
I'd have an orchard, a veggie patch and everything that I wanted. AND some chickens.
I would also make sure that all my family were comfortable and give a wodge of dosh to wanna ~ be SSF people to help them get set up. IE get them the smallholding that they always dreamt of.

I've use a couple of composting bogs. Surprisingly unremarkable. No smell. The only real difference is they were 'no peeing only' facilities, and instead of flushing it, you chuck in a handful of sawdust, which keeps the carbon balance for the compost.
When they are full, the container is pulled out (usually this is accessed from outside - one of them was simply a wheely-bin) and sealed up for a year to let the microbes do their business. After this, I'm told (I didn't see this bit) it is exactly like any other compost in texture, smell and nutrient value.

Too much pee is not good for a compost loo, so it's best not to add it if you don't have anything else to offer as well.Millymollymandy wrote:Is that No Peeing, or Peeing Only?Muddypause wrote:. The only real difference is they were 'no peeing only' facilities,
Some of the commercially available compost loos try to separate pee from poo at source, though I don't know how effective they are at doing that. I would have thought that there were certain anatomical variations that made this difficult.
