One of my tom plants has a large yellow flower on the top. I don't know what type it is because we were a way and there was a storm and a lot of the tags on my stuff were lost but the tom survived Its an outdoor tom and is about 12 inches high with a truss of proper flowers on it but in the center theres a big single flower. I have never seen one like it before should I remove it or leave it? it could turn into a giant tomato
My bet is it's probably a Costoluto Fiorentino (I think that's how it's spelt)
It happens to mine, every first truss has a huge mutant flower in the centre, but it just dies and never turns into a giant tomato.
Doesn't seem to be a problem though, all the other "normal" flowers on the truss go on to produce normal tomatoes.
Fascinating!
Never seen, or heard, of that before.
It would be better to snip it off then wouldn't it. Else all the plants energy will be going into this HUGE flower and neglecting the rest of the plant.
right where my scissors ... it has no use it has to go ... now wheres that hubby of mine only joking I need him to write me a Solstice poem so he is safe for now
