First set of amnio results....

Post: # 108587Post citizentwiglet »

I had my amnio yesterday, the procedure itself wasn't too bad and wasn't painful at all...

The hospital have surprised me totally by phoning me with the initial results (Down's, Edwards and Patau Syndrome checks) just now....

And we are clear!!

I still need to wait about three weeks for the other checks, but the chances of a genetic abnormality are, thankfully, much much lower than they were for the above. My consultant did a thorough anomoly scan yesterday, and Squiglet looks (in his words) 'perfect'. They can't really see enough of the heart as they would like to just yet, so I have a heart scan and echocardiogram booked for 5 weeks time; but what the consultant CAN see of the heart is looking good - at worst, it might be a case of there being a hole or two - the majority of which, he told me, close up during the pregnancy; but we'll know more in a couple of months time.

I would really like to say a huge thank you; you have completely overwhelmed us with your kindness and your support and it has been hugely, massively appreciated.

Brightest blessings to you all

I'm absolutely delighted to hear this news. Please try to relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy now. I have had several experiences of friends & family who have been told to expect the worst then amnio show that it was nothing more than an inexperienced sonographer & a baby laying awkwardly!

Hugs to you, your OH, little boy & bump

That's absolutely fantastic news, just the best. It sounds like you and Squiglet are in very capable hands - here's hoping that's it for drama and it's a nice uneventful pregnancy from here on in!

Yay for Squiglet!
