DRY BOTTOMS!!!

sophie is now dry both night and day! it's been nearly a week now since she refused to have a night time nappy on and agreed to get up and use the potty if she needs it. she's doing so well, we've not had more than one tiny wet patch yet!!!

Clever girl! I only have experience of potty-training boys and they are slow to be dry at night. Sophie isn't 3 yet is she? She's a real quick learner

she's almost exactly 2 and a half. just over. I was aparently an early learner, and according to my mum in law hubby was surprisingly quick for a boy too.
I'm just so proud! she was so good last night, at 3am I heard her shout me once, realise I wasn't coming ("oh, mummy sleep"), I heard her then get out of bed, pad across to her potty, pad back and get herself back into bed again!!! I wasn't expecting that bit to happen so quick either!

I'm particuarly impressed with the going to the potty alone, my 8 yr old still seems to believe that we should all be aware of when he is on the toilet, if it was him you would have heard 'oh mummy asleep', footsteps, mouth to my ear and then 'MUM I'M GOING' Congraulations!

I'm dreading the potty training. Just starting to get the first initial signs that Ellis is starting to realise he needs a wee, he just refuses to use the potty. He's 28 months nearly. His brother is due mid November, so I'm not sure whether to just wait until the new arrival, as I hear toddlers often regress with the arrival of a new sibling so might just try and tackle it after the baby comes. I'm just dreading 2 in nappies! Fortunately, a friend of mine is sending me 30 second-hand reusables (the Bambino Something Or Other ones, I believe) and I have a stack of terries from Freecycle, so hopefully my donations to landfill will be minimal.....

Well done Soph! It's a great achievement. I remember the first time I heard those little footsteps thundering along the hall to the loo by themselves at night - I had to go and stand out of sight to listen to them thundering back again, I couldn't quite believe it!

CT, I don't have first hand experience of this, but from what I've heard two in naps is - apparently - preferable to a baby in naps and a partly-trained toddler who will guaranteed decide just as the baby's started to feed/is throwing up/has just sprayed poo everywhere that he needs the loo and refuses to go alone! I can see the logic there.

Toilet training was a nightmare for us, took a year start to finish. I think I misread the signals or aimed for too much too soon, but the upside was hardly a pooey nappy from 18 months, it was the wetting that took forever to sort out.

I misread night-time signals about 4 months ago. I put soph in bed without a nappy, sorted her all out and everything and was up 4 times in the night to change her sheets. the next night was the same, then she started purposefully wetting herself during the day too. she just wasn't ready then and rebelled.
this time it's her idea. she claims she wet the bed last night but I can't find any sign of it. her water cup was upended this morning though so she could be talking about that.

hey I'm incredibly lucky. someone I know was 14 before he was dry at night.

It's not always the case that boys are slower with potty training. My son was dry all day at age 2 1/2, and dry all night before he was 3. My eldest daughter was slightly older before she was dry in the day, but was dry at night slightly younger than him. My youngest one is 28 months and 1 day today. She started using her potty long before her second birthday and I thought we were well away. Then, one day after I had taken her nappy off to let her 'do a buff' as we call it, she discovered she had diarrhea. After that she refused to do a buff any more and had a minor tantrum if you even mentioned the word 'potty'. It's only been the last couple of days that she's started thinking about it again, and has just put a doll on it. Fingers crossed now!

One of the things I think has helped her along recently was telling everyone to stop talking about the potty - just don't mention it at all, so no pressure. Then, after a few weeks, I borrowed as many books from the library as I could that had pictures of children/bears/whatever all using their potties. I simply read the books and discussed the pictures and said how clever the characters were. What I didn't do was tell her that she should be doing it, too. I wanted to leave her to come to that decision on her own.

But I'm silently going insane with all these nappies - she drinks so much!

to get soph dry during the day (ok, to get soph to realise that wee goes in potty not on floor) we ended up using her favorite teddy and making him go on the potty. worked like a charm.

Neither of mine would have anything to do with a potty. DD said quite pointedly at 2 and a half that Mummy and Daddy didn't use a potty so why should she...she had a point there.

So - we bought one of those training toilet seats and a step-up and she used the loo. We did have to call out Dyna Rod though after Barbie was sent on a trip to the seaside.

We had the trainer loo seats too for DD and they were fantastic, she used them very happily and I was happy too as it meant no potties to empty out! Was never very keen on potties
