Problem tomatoes

Post: # 118371Post mrsflibble »

I have some beefsteak tomatoes which are producing VERY small (cherry size) tomatoes which have incredibly thick skins, what am I doing wrong? the cherry toms are doing really nicely.
also, my vintage yellow (banana) tomatoes are nice and big but refusing to go yellow.

Unfortunately, I can't help you with your issues suffice to say that my moneymakers have had nice big green tomatoes for about 3-4 weeks now but were refusing to go red.

I came home tonight and one of them has just started turning...

'bout time, I say.

Could be lack of water - thick skins is a sign of that.

Is it? I wondered because my Gardeners' Delight have slightly tough skins for the first time ever, yet I'm growing them in pots on the terrace and they are very well watered. :?

mine are also well watered. it's the size more than the skins that bothers me though, they're tiny! they get fed twice a week according to instructions on the fertiliser bottle, they're really well watered and in planters...

How is the foliage looking? Are you using a tomato fertilizer?

Can't really offer advice, but, unless the variety just doesn't do what it promises (it happens), your tomatoes are probably lacking something.

Light, root space, minerals... could be anything.
