It's here at last - Happy Selfsufficientish Day!
I actually stayed in bed until 11 today - was soooooooooooooo tired. Baking and traditional games this afternoon and something nice for dinner.

Re: HAPPY SELFSUFFICIENTISH DAY !
Well I made 8 jars of old english chutney ( my mums recipe , handed down from her mum) and I was helped by Big Matt, (my son, who is also on this board) , he cut up all the tomatoes. Thanks Matt.
I also had a go at plaiting my garlic, which wasnt a total success but it is ok. I have just been out picking apples, so will have to think of something else to do with them.
Matt also re puttied some windows, which have seen better days.
All in all not a bad afternoons work.
I would also like to wish a very happy birthday to the boys, I hope that you have had a lovely day!

Happy selfsufficientish day to all!!
I cleaned out the chickens(they laid extra eggs today too),baked a loaf, made a new soap recipe, made another batch of wine(ready Christmas),ironed, picked produce, made lasagne for dinner and while in the oven collected a playhouse from a freecycler that I have wanted for ages for my 2 year old, I have put in for loads but I am never lucky on freecycle until today, selfsufficientish day!!!
A great productive day all round, but I never got round to plaiting my garlic a job for tomorrow after scrubbing the playhouse..........

Re: HAPPY SELFSUFFICIENTISH DAY !
Happry Birthday Dave and Andy
I got soaked through on the way home from work and we lit the fire - hardly very green at all am I?
Did however make dye from onion skins, and used it on some of my fleece 'stash', the colours on the wool are lovely burnt sienna and gold fading to pale tan, some will be spun and some felted.

Re: HAPPY SELFSUFFICIENTISH DAY !
I'm dead chuffed, I did get my old sack of knitting out and have a look and yes sure enough there was a jumper I'd started some 15 years ago ....... it wasn't an easy pattern but I just read the pattern, eventually made sense of it all with the aid of a reference book I have and spent the evening knitting and have successfully managed to do the eyelet hole rows!
Actually it's almost like I never had a break from knitting! I am sooooooo happy! Now my next challenge is quite how I am to buy wool in France but get a pattern in English because I think that French patterns might be too complicated!
Anyway I thank Andy (and Dave) for their idea for this SS Day from the bottom of my heart.

Re: HAPPY SELFSUFFICIENTISH DAY !
Oh there was another great thing that happened yesterday!
Some friends dropped by who I hadn't seen for ages and upon mention of the fact that they had only got 3, yes three, runner beans I was able to give them half a carrier bag full!
Plus a couple of cucumbers!
That also really made my day!
The fact that I had to then pick another huge amount
from my r. bean plants later that afternoon didn't dampen my spirits!
