And I agree with deoderants being more of a problem Fee. Although I disagree about needing padding to hide piercings - before I got pregnant with youngest I had vertical & horizontal on both & they didn't show through regular bras. Mind you, with padding I'd probably look like Jordan!!!

Yep, I'm with Annpan & Hamster there. I get measured regularly & make sure I readjust straps after washing bras so they are comfy. I prefer underwired for keeping boobs where they need to be & not risk injury!

Re: Women's health: what wearing a bra will do to you
when i was 18 i elected to have breast reduction surgery, this was partly because of my "big old bangers" (36G)
and partly because of family history of breast cancer mind you i went on to get lymphatic cancer anyway hey-ho
(its all gone now)
(i saw some women on a documentary recently that have gone the whole hog and had elective mastectomies
but this was not a route i wanted to take)
before surgery i could not entertain being bra free without considerable discomfort and even bow as a DD cup i would not go without all day but i still hate under wired ones and cant stand those padded/formed cups they look like body armour on me

A well fitted underwired bra seems to work well for me. I've just unpicked a tatty old one to (hopefully) make myself a funky fifties bikini which will provide more support than my current swimwear.

Re: Women's health: what wearing a bra will do to you
Although I really wish I was small enough to get away without wearing a bra - the truth of the matter is, I'm sure I'd seriously knock myself out if I didn't
I do think there is something in the idea that bras restrict the lymphatic system but I also agree that deodorants also have something to do with an increase in disease - along with diet, pollution etc.
In all honesty - there are probably too many variables to be able to blame just one thing so I prefer to reduce the risk as much as possible by eating healthily, using chemical free deodorants/shampoos/soaps and taking regular exercise. Going braless a little more often is certainly an option indoors but I've got to be practical too!
Ironically, on the 'taking regular exercise' point - I was reading earlier today that chlorine causes asthma. My favourite past time of swimming a mile every morning could then be considered a risk - but weighing it up - is no exercise better than risking asthma through chlorine inhalation...when no exercise could contribute to asthma anyway? My point is, whatever you do - there'll be someone out there telling you it's dangerous to your health!
Make informed decisions and you probaby won't go far wrong.

Even oxygen is dangerous, it contains free radicals. But you try going without it :p

Re: Women's health: what wearing a bra will do to you
I find it incredibly uncomfortable not to wear a bra. I have 36HH boobs. I'm 4ft 8in high. if I so much as walk down stairs without a bra on it's agony. I get myself measured every 3 months or so, that's when I buy a new bra too. I then end up with 3 bras; one to trow, one to wear when washing my good one and my good one hahaha!!!
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very

Re: Women's health: what wearing a bra will do to you
Definately couldn't do without a bra - I'd do myself an injury! I would think it's much more dangerous to undertake any kind of physical activity without proper support? As long as you get a properly fitting bra, and regularly get measured, there shouldn't be an issue of comfort. I have different sized bras for different times of the month, as some months I can go up and down a cup size during my period
But then, I also wear a corset at times, so I guess I'm a lost cause when it comes to liberating my body

When I was young people called me a hippy. Now I'm a bit older I'm just called environmentally aware..... that's progress!

Goodness me, if I had to go every three months to get myself measured... I only go into town at the most once a year - and then only kicking and screaming! That would be torture! I really don't envy you having to do that...

Mrs Wombat reports pain if she doesn't wear a bra, some of which steps from her shoulders. She does wear a "strait Jacket" sports bra when she goes line dancing and says the support is great.

Re: Women's health: what wearing a bra will do to you
Like many women here I took find it essential to wear a bra. I fin life most uncomfortable and difficult without one, and exercise would be out of the question with out some seriouse support (I wear a sports bra and a sports crop top for exercising to hold it all down)
I am a 32 FF and feel quite upset and cross at the suggestion that I should not be wearing a bra, as my life would be such a misery without one. Also if I didnt wear one, my boobs would be down by my knees by now due to the effects of gravity!!
The women who dont wear bras must only have small boobs, or not move around much?!?

Re: Women's health: what wearing a bra will do to you
I only wear a bra when I go out and even then, if I can get away with it, I won't bother putting one on.
My breast aren't small and I actually find it more comfortable to leave them 'loose'!
As I breastfeed I find it a lot easier for my son to get access to them if there's nothing covering them - that includes nursing bras. And because I'm breastfeeding there's no point in me getting sized as they change shape all the time (besides, I can't afford to go buying bras all the time.)
When he gets older and more active I'll try to find a nursing sports bra but that'll just be for going out!
I don't know about bras giving you cancer etc... who knows for sure?!
