Eat the Change

Post: # 120560Post Andy Hamilton »

I am a member of the free economy and Mark Boyle the founding member eats only UK, non plastic and vegan food. He is trying to get other people to do the same just for a week or two. I will try, although I will find it very difficult to give up cheese and beer.

Join us for a week of eating only local organic food, free from plastic packaging, to demonstrate to Government that urgent action is needed to transform our food system.

Most of us would love to eat more locally grown food that is good for us and the environment. But how many of us feel we could actually do it in our current globalised food system?

Between Saturday 6th and Sunday 21st September, during Organic food Fortnight - when food is at its most abundant in the UK* - join us for one week eating only food from the following sources:

* Organic food, grown and produced in the UK*, free from plastic packaging
* Foraged food-free food growing wild and abundantly all over the UK
* Home grown food-food you, your friends or family have grown

* If you are not a UK resident then you can still join in, just try and eat food from your area and free of plastic packaging.

Take Action!
1) Sign up to our pledge at www.pledgebank.com/eatthechange (don't worry that we've already reached our target - we need as many people signed up as possible to make an impact)
2) Visit www.eatthechange.org * for more information, advice and support and to share your experiences during the week to highlight to Government that urgent action is needed to transform our food system.
3) Copy and paste this message and send it far and wide using the two magic resources one that is called email and the other address books!

Be a good idea to see what changes even us SSish types have to make if we embrace it wholeheartedly, plastic-free is hard even if you're really mindful..... we're due to have our lamb on 14th for OHs birthday, very local and totally organic....do we get special dispensation to not go vegan that day?

i reckon you could have a special non vegan dispensation!!

im glad this got posted as i was emailed it and clearly misread it because i thought that i could only eat food within so many miles of me. which would have meant i would starve because theres barely anything around here!

should give it a go then. what do you reckon the rules are on stuff you already have in the cupboard - e.g. spices, herbs, condiments etc?

also, due to my coastal, very near france location, we have a french market come to us each week - reckon i would be allowed Calais/Bologne produce?

Strewth Nev you Flaming gallah!

Ok for it to make sense I think I was the one that said it is where you fail that sometimes highlights the most problem areas and then Nev said good point.

Yep did notice but not to worry. Means you have to try out the challenge though,

Thanks to moving to a part of world where living off the land and only local food is normal the only thing I'll have to forfeit will be tea and coffee. What on earth am I going to drink when I visit a bar?

Just found out the beer we drink is only made 20 kms up the road, so I can still visit the bar.

Good excuse to drink more beer rather than coffee....

I'd be hard pushed to find anything like that here. But then, I don't go to bars. :?
