Hello From Scotland

Post: # 122329Post Fifer182 »

Hi from Scotland :sunny:

I hail from Fife, I'm a complete novice to self sufficiency in so far as growing me own veg etc. I make my own jams and preserves and generally love being creative in the kitchen.
Having moved to a slightly larger house, it is my intention to rip up the hideous mono - blocking which currently covers my entire property ( YUCK!!!), prepare and get planting. Having come from generations of farm workers and keen gardners, I'm hoping some green fingers have managed to find their way into my genes!!
I'm really keen to learn from others when it comes to reducing waste and getting creative. I'm a keen forager and love the idea of making my environment work for me and my family. To be honest, I'm sick of the rat race and want to 'get back to basics' in a sense!

If I win the lottery, I'd be headed for the hills and a nice wee small holding... until then, I've got a heck of a lot to learn!! So please excuse me if I ask daft questions ( I guarantee I will!!!)

Welcome Fifer182.

Don't chuck your blocks away - I bet you'll find hundreds of uses for them if you do. I've been looking longingly at a homemade woodburner on another thread, but getting anything delivered up here is extortionate.

Good luck with the gardening, it's a good time of year to get cracking.

And if you win enough, can you get me a little place like that, too?

Welcome, Fifer - I'm a bit further north than you, and also well into jam making...

Hi all! Thanks for the lovely warm welcomes :flower:

Mono - blocking is that hideous, naff stuff that folks lay down as driveways. Usually it's got dye in it so it can be arranged in lovely wee diamond patterns etc. Now in itself, as a driveway or whatever it looks o.k and serves a purpose.. but... my whole garden, front and back is laid ( badly might I add!!) with the blooming things!! The only green at present on my property are the weeds which have grown rampantly between said blocks!!

Thanks again for the warm welcomes x
