A photo would be nice too.

Re: First Frost!!
Couple of nights ago we had the first air frost - ground frost we've been having for a couple of weeks, down to minus 5.

Don't you just love the smell in the air though?? It's a beautiful, clean, fresh aroma. The other morning , the autum frosty smell lingered and someone was burning wood somewhere.. ah.. bliss

you must be well inland Ina - we hardly see ground frost because of the sea ( 100 yards away ) Which I think is not so good for the soil-does a good freeze up really kill all the bugs?

our furrypigs have well and truely moved indoors now. they're happily munching away on carrots in a cage at the other end of this room. on warm days I shall put them outside in the run, but for now it's just too cold for my l'il baby boys!

About 15 miles inland, maybe. And 150 metres up. We need more than a bit of nightfrost to kill the bugs - a few days AND nights of frost help!invisiblepiper wrote: you must be well inland Ina - we hardly see ground frost because of the sea ( 100 yards away ) Which I think is not so good for the soil-does a good freeze up really kill all the bugs?

Frost was here in the Vienne a couple of days ago, albeit light.
Now we're into rain, good for filling my new interlinked waterbutt system...

Re: First Frost!!
Our roads were gritted today, so we're obviously expecting frosts tonight. Which means that the stars should be amazing tonight, especially up on the Wash sea bank!

Re: First Frost!!
I think we're a long way off from our first frost, though after the rains last week there was a dusting of snow above 3000m, which is unusual for this time of year. It definitely feels cooler this year, I've been lighting fire in the evening for over a week now. Hopefully we will get some snow down here (1000m) this winter, the first christmas we were here we had snow, it was just astonishingly beautiful.
