Typical, I've just bought some Wee Notions yesterday! I've got on really well with them in the past (am 7 months pg so haven't used them for a while!) and I thought with the lochia to deal with I'd stock up now as I should get a good 10 years use out of them. My periods came back after three months with DD, despite bf - harrumph to that! At the moment they're doing a buy 5, get an extra one free offer, and if you go for their cheaper fabrics it works out not too bad - certainly compared to sposies which are horrible anyway. I have a mooncup too and tend to use a combination or one or t'other depending on the day of the week really.

I'm still a confirmed mooncup user though. Never go back to anything else!

I'm really impressed with these! I have some that I bought off tinternet and I'm just starting to get used to using them. This is the first "thread" I've got involved in so forgive me if this is too much information when I don't know you guys very well yet , but what's the best way to wash them? The ones I've got are made of black fabric and yet they still seem to stain! I presoak them in cold water before machine washing as recommended but this doesn't seem to work. Would be interested to know what kind of fabrics you made these from and how you keep them clean ( although I'm assuming the ones in the photo aren't used!!!

Ok so Mr Luvpie is understanding to a certain extent, he accepts the mooncups existance but sticks his fingers in his ears at any mention of it, however he is now looking for old insoles as he has decided that he is going to make me some pads, I think he is taking the mick, but just in case I'm hiding the superglue

They are fantastic though, where did the ladybird fabric come from, always on the look out for something abit different to make the boys wear!

I would wonder what to wash them with too? I am loving my wee wipes, though I wash them with LOs nappies once a week, at 60C but I wouldn't want to run a load in the machine just for pads, and I wouldn't want to wash anything bloody with anything else in the house (I have hygiene issues at the best of times) Plus, I am quite a heavy bleeder (TMI?) so I can visulise buckets of the things mounting up over 4 days and then getting washed together... but then I would need about 50 of them....

I give them a quick scrub under the cold tap with some hand soap, then sling them in the washing machine, regardless of what is in there. Our washing machine is fed directly from the solar hot water system so everything gets washed at whatever temperature that is (about 50 degrees on a good day).

Menstrual blood is not germy AnnPan, don't worry about it.

Hi. Obviously a while since I last used one, but I used to keep a large plastic tub on the cistern (an old marg tub sort of thing). When a towel went in I would pour any old water down the loo prior to flushing then fill the tub with fresh cold water, so most towels would have had at least a couple of fresh lots of water to soak in. Next time I did a 'bucket wash' (napkins - the sort you use at supper! - tea towels, rags, washing up cloths, flannels, bedclothes, anything I do at 60 degrees) I put the towels in too and neither they nor anything else seemed to suffer. I'm not too squeamish anyway. There is a bit of staining but tbh I expect that.

Glad you're getting on with them. I use Wee Notions and find them excellent. Have mega ones lined up for the lochia!

Mrs D'Ville, Thank you for the link about Wee Notions, I hadn't heard of them. Just had a quick look at the site, got a bit confused until I worked out that Fairy Hammocks meant cloth pads

Just wondering which ones you have been using?Good luck with the baby on the way..

I have some cloth pads, although I use some disposable ones as well. I now soak them in cold (ish) water with some borax after a rinse through under the cold tap. This helps with staining. I have an old china chamber pot which I use to soak them in. I can leave them for a few days if necessary, I then like to wash them at a hot wash with towels, sheets etc.

I have completely converted to cloth pads as I couldn't get on with the Mooncup and I love them. I think my period has actually become heavier since I swapped from using tampons and disposable pads, but it's also over quicker.

I give them a quick rinse under the cold tap before popping them in the bucket to continue soaking. They wash 99% clean even at 40 degrees.
