Re: Traveling in Nepal and India
OH has just come back from Nepal, mountaineering. Had to stop in Delhi for a couple of days, hated it.
What kind of activities do you like? Apparently Kathmandu is a polluted dump and best left asap

Re: Traveling in Nepal and India
Hi - my husband is a mountaineer and visited Nepal last summer. He travelled with Exoodus - which is adviseable as unrest meant that the local guides had to buy them out of trouble on two occasions!
I did not note where you are from - but sadly the local extremists are very anti American in particular. Travelling with an eco aware and non touristy team such as Exodus is not cheap - but safer and better for the local people, as their expertise is used and paid for fairly. My OH saved a long time to go. If you have specific questions - PM me and I will ask him to answer cos he knows more!

Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less travelled by
And that has made all the difference.

Re: Traveling in Nepal and India
I went to India a couple of years ago with Travelscope.
It was great being with a guided tour, but it was not so great being with a guided tour.
I liked india and would probably spend more time there (not as much as i like China...). Once you get used to the noise, the bustle and the smells its really interesting. You also have to get used to the Indian attitude.
It is a fascinating place, with some beautiful cultural areas, and the Taj Mahal at Sunrise and Sunset is something else!
Being with a guided tour was great because it meant that things like travel and hotels were all dealt with for us, but on the other hand, we did have a very mixed bunch on the tour. Dad and i like travelling and we like being out at places and seeing everything possible, whereas some of the people on the tour were more interested in sitting round the pool with books...and on a guided tour, they have places that they have to take you - so they'll take you to one particular restaurant, or a carpet factory...
I'd say go for it and have the experience. You can always say after wards 'that wasn't how i expected it to be'.
