We had cheese pudding - but fried this time - with mushy peas, boiled beetroot and chips. Yummy comfort food
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Re: What's for dinner?
Last night we had calzone, garlic & parsley bread and coleslaw followed by shop bought choc cake (long story but the calzone etc was so much work I was very happy not to be cooking pud too!) with choco custard and leftover cream. Yum yum piggy's bum.
Tonight we had veggie mince stew with dumplings and swede chips; tomorrow we're having cream of mushroom soup with garlic bread. Three meals in a row I can make in vast enough quants for freezing, yay

Re: What's for dinner?
Yesterday I went to the new Ikea that has opened up and we thought we'd eat there as never have done before and people seem to rave about their meatballs.
For the life of me I can't think why, the whole experience was as bad as MacDonalds but with the added misery of long queues especially to pay with a plate of rapidly cooling food. On top of the fact that their meat balls are pretty vile, they serve them with a glop sauce and a strange sort of jam (cranberry? but very sweet and really wierd). Chips were horrible and dry too. The only good thing was the chocolate tart thing but as they have such little choice on their menu I just felt that I was eating plastic mass produced food.
NEVER AGAIN.

Oh and didn't like the shop either, found everything to be extremely uninspiring; must have been all Ikea'd out 7 years ago when I did enjoy the Ikea shopping experience and even had an Ikea kitchen and bathroom!

Re: What's for dinner?
I didn't really follow a recipe, just made pizza dough as usual (I can post a recipe for that if you like) and then made it up as I went along. I don't know if there is a 'proper' calzone filling, but I used pizza sauce and all the usual sorts of things I use for pizza: peppers, veg sausage, onion, olives, cheese, mushrooms and as we had it broken up falafel and black pudding. Wouldn't normally use black pud but it was the only meat we had and it worked really well!Loobyloo wrote:Ooh I'd love the recipe for Calzone if you wouldn't mind posting it Mrs D'Ville. Beware filling them too full, that's the only problem.

Dough recipe would be great and how long/ hot you cooked it for?
I can usually make most recipes up myself but always need some help when it comes to oven temps and times!

Re: What's for dinner?
My standard pizza recipe is (for one pizza):
6oz plain flour
1 level teaspoon salt
1 level tsp yeast
1/2 level tsp sugar
1 tablespoon oil
Warm the flour slightly (30 secs in the microwave). Mix all the dry ingredients together then make a well in the middle and the oil and 4 fl oz warmish water - big hairy NB: if you make double or more quants of this dough (I always do at least treble) do NOT double/treble the water, just go by feel until you have enough. Mix to a dough, finishing by hand. Turn out and knead for about three mins - the dough will have a sheen and blisters under the surface. I know I've kneaded enough when it's nice and smooth and not sticky any more. Leave to double in size then knock back and shape.
One lot of dough will make two calzone. Roll out to 7-8" circles. Put the filling on one half, leaving an edge of about 1". Damp the edges then fold over and press edges together. I cooked them for, um, 15-20 mins? Hottish oven, 180 or so (we have a fan oven). I wasn't paying too much attention to the time as I made 12 and was doing them on a production line while trying to keep track of which were veggie and which meat! I would make sure any meat was cooked before it went on.
Enjoy!
