Cheering up an old craft box...

Post: # 132813Post StripyPixieSocks »

In an effort to get my creative juices flowing again I decided in my wisdom at 4am one morning that I would decorate the box I stored some of my craft stuff in... having forgot I decided to do that... three months later I remembered and yesterday set about tarting it up (the box  )

I had put some water transfers on it when I first got it to make it 'pretty' but really, flowers and hearts aren't really my thing so I decided to use some of my wallpaper stash (yes I hoarde wallpaper from Freecycle because I can use it for a million and one things... despite what OH says  )

So... I decided against the purple stripes and the pale blue with Winnie the Pooh (it came with some other stuff) and went for a zingy green and white.

I'm quite pleased with it and it certainly has brightened up the corner it sits in... and I even managed to wipe up all the white paint I dripped everywhere (I am the worlds most messiest crafter)

The Original IKEA Box

Finished, Open
Finished, Closed
All finished with some of my craft stuff back in the drawers... no, it doesn't usually look so neat

Next stop is to finally finish my rain stick (which is the newspaper covered 'thing' in the finished, closed photo)

Lovely - am now very ashamed of the vast space my craft stuff takes up!

And I took the one less travelled by
And that has made all the difference.

Thankyou!!

Oh don't be ashamed of the space your craft stuff takes up... that's by no means all of my craft stuff that's just my colouring in stuff... the rest of my stuff is stacked all over the flat in boxes and cupboards and balanced precariously on other things etc etc etc.

I am going to need an army of those drawer units to get it tidy!

Basically, rain sticks are tubes with nails hammered into them in a spiral fashion and then filled with rice or lentils.

When you tip them up it sounds like rain falling... unusually soothing and love them... never got around to buying one so I made one out of a cardboard tube, lots and lots if nails, Papier-mâché and a couple of handfuls of lentils.

I do believe they were fist made out of dried cactus with the thorns being used for nails and were believed to be able to bring rain storms on.

More usually these days they are just used as a percussion instrument :sunny:

What a great way to recycle wrapping paper tubes!

Your craft box look very neat and tidy SPS, how long will it stay like that?

It's a great project for kids too providing they are supervised with the hammer and nails :)

Uhmm it will stay like that for about 5 minutes after I want a silver pen and it's at the bottom of the pile  everything just usually gets shoved back in willy nilly!

... and whoops... yes 4am seems to be my most creative time, probably if only for the fact it's actually quiet in London at that time (I still can't get used to the constant noise  )

Would be excellent, there's plenty of tutorials out there telling you how to do them and the best thing for the inside beady bits... would love to see the result :D
