Am I right in thinking that you are saying don't eat these sausage rolls now. Heat them up to really, really hot before eating them?

Re: But WHY shouldn't I ...
I've reheated things many times over. As long as you try to minimize the "room-temperature times" you should be fine. Cool them fast when cooling, heat them nice and hot (you don't have to burn them). I like my hot foods really hot anyway, just because I don't like it cooling off on my plate.
That said, the "rules" are suggestions. Everything in life is a risk to some degree, but unless your food, dishes or hands are contaminated to begin with, the chances of you catching something during a heat/thaw cycle is actually quite slim.

Once when I was little and still at primary school, I asked my father which is heavier, a pint of oil or a pint of water? He replied by saying it's like asking which is heavier? A ton of feathers or a ton of steel?

How? in a sieve, with cold water? how odd.....
My Mum's husband uses washing up liquid when washing fruit and veg.....
Rosey, I love reading your tales of your parents, so similar to my Mum, it is disturbing - though my Mum is having a 'good' spell just now, and because she knows I am active here I wouldn't go into too much detail... So rant away, do, especially when it helps just to get things out of your system.

Perhaps we should have an anniversary party - it's a year since I told my folks where to get off too!! Although our dispute wasn't about frozen meat products! lol! I think one of the stupidest things my mother told me was that she wouldn't ring me on my mobile phone in case I was having s*x!

Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

When we were in Blackpool our house was a 3 storey ex guest house - the top flat was the 'granny flat' where the eldest daughter lived....... Before she had her little one, if she was 'entertaining' she often used to forget to shut doors....
So, one evening, I had a friend round & we were in the lounge, when I heard the 'entertaining' noises....
I turned the TV up & tried to talk a little louder, but it was obvious that the strategies weren't working, so I called her on her mobile - and yep, she answered!!!
She was told in no uncertain terms to shut the door, shut her mouth, or shut her %$!!*$!! legs!
And she never forgot to shut doors again!
Good job my visitor was my long term friend - we still giggle about it now - I'm glad the daughter doesn't live with us any more - no shame!!
Julie.

Re: But WHY shouldn't I ...
Love that story Julie!
Rosendula - I don't know the answer about your sausage rolls either and I'd like to know. It's not something I've ever thought about.
I've frozen my mince pies (not meat obviously!) but I won't be reheating them before eating. I don't think one has to does one? I have a savoury salmon cake in the freezer for Xmas Eve but you can't reheat a cake.
Oh dear and the salmon I used was frozen! Is it safe to eat???????
And what's this problem with cold cooked rice? I love cold rice - used to eat it with milk and sugar when I was a kid.

Re: But WHY shouldn't I ...
As far as I know the 'rules'.....
Fresh meats - can be frozen, but once thawed has to be cooked before freezing again.....
Cooked Meats - can be frozen..... once rethawed, can be heated to HOT not warm, or left cold - meat dishes can be recooked (as in stews) but must be hot hot hot, before eating, not warmed through.
As for sausage rolls - they can be cooked & frozen - then either thaw to eat cold or thaw & then reheat to hot not warm.
As for the rice issue - I can only eat half portions of anything since my operation, so if we have a chinese, I eat half & keep the other half for my lunch & sometimes again for dinner the following day.
Sometimes I eat the rice cold & sometimes I pop it into Stan to heat through..... I've not suffered yet!
Actually, thinking about it, my fave dishes from the chinese are chicken & pineapple, or prawn chop suey - they get the same treament as the rice - maybe I have an iron constitution!!

Re: But WHY shouldn't I ...
I remember a biology assignment which learned me that I was stupid. We had to write about why sugar preserves strawberries, without first knowing why this might be the case. I painstakingly drew a diagram with lots of little bits of sugar plugging up the pores in the strawberry so the germs couldn't get in. That was my guess about the 'science'. My biology teacher was very cutting about this and called me all sorts of hurtful things, while omitting to educate me about sugar and strawberries. So I went away with my moronic little diagram, absolutely none the wiser. I still don't know why sugar preserves things. (I don't really care that much either, truth be told.)
But I am not such a fule that I would put cold meat on top of a stove with a nasty, germy tea-towel on top of it.

Re: But WHY shouldn't I ...
regarding the sausage rolls... thaw the sausagemeat - make the rolls - cook some and eat them, freeze the others *before* cooking. then cook from frozen to piping hot.

Re: But WHY shouldn't I ...
Rosendula - can you see Edit on this thread or is it just the delete that has gone awol. Someone was asking where Edit had gone elsewhere. Think I'll have to bring this to John's attention cos every now and again certain threads go a bit funny in that respect - as far as I know you should always be able to edit a post even after someone else has posted after you - though you may not be able to actually delete that post.
Can you (or anyone else) check for me if Delete is there when you have just posted something before someone else posts please? I can't tell cos I have edit and delete for everyone's posts!
