Re: My little dog
Big hugs from me too
I've been through it quite recently too & the pain was so bad we adopted Dana just two days later, not to replace Dazey, but to fill the huge dog-shaped hole in our lives. A friend sent me this..I bawled my eyes out, but it really helped
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Their bright eyes are intent; their eager body quivers. Suddenly they begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, their legs carrying them faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy licky-kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your special friend, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Re: My little dog
Awww I am so sorry to hear about your little dog. People that havent had pets just dont realise how heartbreaking it is to lose one. They are a member of the family and you feel real hurt and grief.
Sending you a big hug from here.

Re: My little dog
Oh, pbf. My heart goes out to you. I had to make the same decision 14 months ago as I had to allow my beautiful boy to go (brain tumour, aged 6) It gets easier, but slowly, I still couldn't consider another dog, I was only able to tell his breeder about it last week as it was the first time I felt able to talk about it with her and not break down (I did anyway). Looking back though, if I could return to the day when I first saw him when he was a four week old pup, and know then what I know now, I'd still choose him. Six years with him was so special and better than 15 with one of his siblings. A big virtual hug to you. I hope you soon feel able to remember the happy times.

Bluemoon, that is so sad, I at least had my little one for 12 years. I have been so comforted by everyone's messages. Particularly by the rainbow bridge. We are a soppy lot aren't we!! I haven't been out yet as I can't face telling people! Got to get back to normal as the cat needs feeding!! thankyou so much everyone. pbf

Re: My little dog
I really feel for you pbf
We have been through it ourselves and it is heartbreaking. As as been said above, most people just don't understand the pain you go through when a much loved member of the family passes away. We had a dog killed by a badger 7 years ago and my wife still can't look at photos of him. A month later we had to have our other dog put to sleep because of lung cancer.
We have three dogs now and they are our fur kids. They go everywhere with us and if we can't take the dogs somewhere then we just don't go.
There has been criticism in the news this week about a chap who dove into a frozen lake to rescue his cocker spaniel call Jarvis (Jarvis Cocker, geddit).
I would not hesitate to do the same thing if one of my dogs- or anyone elses for that matter- was in trouble.

Re: My little dog
Another sad story - when my mum was here I thought she was being really morbid when she kept saying ' my cat will probably be dead when I get home' - well he was a 12 year old Burmese and horrendously skinny and when I was there last July I managed to persuade mum that she should take him to the vet. He had umpteen tests but they found nothing wrong with him. After that he regained his appetite for a while but then got very skinny again.
There's a lady in her village who takes cats in at her place but when they delivered mum's cat back to her Sunday morning (she'd just returned from us Sat evening) the cat was so ill it couldn't eat or do more than drink a little bit and collapse in front of the fire. The people at the cattery said 'oh he was all right until a few days ago when he suddenly got ill'. Monday he was practially in a coma and luckily my brother was with my mum so took the poor cat to the vet and they had no option but to put him to sleep.
I'm really cross with the cattery people for not taking the cat to the vet themselves. So now poor mum will be feeling really lonely but her plan is to now get a budgie because she won't have another cat as she feels the cat would outlive her and if she is happy with a bird then that's OK.
I just feel for her to have returned to find her cat so ill and what a shock at the end of her holiday.
