Just when I thought he had run out of wood..

OH managed to find an old oak beam along the lane. He hates working in oak. He hates working in the garage when it's cold. He's made three (!) coffee tables recently, plus three little oak footstools. So I thought we were safe and the beam would end up as firewood.

However after much swearing and cursing, he produced this. Not quite a coffee table and not quite a footstool - a sort of combination of the two! Anyway we are very short of sitting space back in the UK as the cottage is miniscule. So this can tuck in a corner and come out as a stool when we have visitors. Not bad from something I thought was only fit for the fire!

Glad to see that you have a set of Encyclopaedia Britannica and other useful reference books.
The Internet is a very useful source of information but I still think you can't beat a good reference book.

Oh dear, no they aren't Encyclopaedia Britannica. It's a set of Agatha Christie. We DO have an awful lot of books here (probably 4-5000) and as well as classics a lot of them are reference but we haven't got a single Encyclopaedia in book form, just Britannica online. I tend to acquire paperbacks for general reading and then pass them on to the local 2nd hand bookshop or neighbours so we try to keep them under control otherwise we would go under a pile of books.
