I live in Torbay and am considering renting a small field from a local farmer I know because I want to keep a larger amount of livestock and because the allotment waiting lists are really huge near where I have just moved to.
I would like to start a small cooperative on the field so that we can share the costs, commitments, work and rewards. But I am unsure where to advertise or look as there are so many time wasters and uncommitted people. I also need people who are willing to put in a small amount of cash for feed, stock, fencing etc and many people seem to be operating on a "no money" policy which is unrealistic in a start up project such as this, although I am more than happy to work with people on raising the necessary cash, I ned people who can at least accept that some cash is needed!
I have coordinated community allotments before and am not worried about the motivational or logistical side but wondered if anyone may have ideas about where I could advertise for a few like minded folk?

What about a press release in the local paper or even get the paper to do a story about what you are trying to achieve

Re: Where to find like minded people?
I did think of that as I know the gardening and community reporter. But it comes back to targeting the right market. I'm worried about getting 30 replies from complete timewasters. I'd rather get 1 genuine person from a card in a window, than 30 meanwells who get bored with the idea or have greater priorities just when the commitment starts. But I suppose if it was worded right, explaining the involvement needed, it could work.
