We had torrential rain both last night & Sat night, but poor Julie seems to still be without power

Yes, so it seems ... although the Irish news (RTE) are not reporting any customers without electricity any more, but it could be just individuals in outlying areas.MuddyWitch wrote:...... but poor Julie seems to still be without power![]()

It could also be lack of Internet connection too, whether telephone line or wireless from a mountain top (as is mine)

I don't mind the wet and wind because the temps are so mild (9C overnight low!!!) and after the big freeze that is just wonderful!

When we first moved in here, hubby noticed that we had three earthing cables around the house... unattached... so that was one of the first things he fixed (never told me he'd done it though!)
And thank goodness he did
We were watching the eucalyptus trees bending almost horizontal in the winds, & the one lonely apple that has held on all thru since last year, when we had one almighty thunderclap right above the house... it rumbled on & on... hubby was sitting near the windows & moved away when they started to rattle..... when he saw a huge lightning fork hit the roof!!
Well, snap crackle & pop, guys.... it was an interesting couple of hours.... every breaker had tripped, but hubby reset those.
We checked outside, NO damage... ? I gathered the candles, put the kettle on the range & we waited.... the power was off for just a couple of hours, so all was cool & how relieved were we!
Except..... no internet... we thought maybe the lightning had got the aerial & box on the roof (yeah, we have satellite net service) but couldn't see any damage.... Turns out that the base station a few miles away had taken a really large hit & as they only work mon - fri office hours, it was repaired today!
Our sky+ box was the only casualty, there's a huge burn out on the main board, so we need a new one of those - in the meantime, hubby has to watch my little tv in the back room
Seeing as we are out in the sticks, we fared better than my daughter - they are right in the centre of their little village & lost power for 7 hours..... and it REALLY traumatized little Leah.... she called me when the power was back on - I lost count of how many times she said 'I didn't like it with no electricity nanny, did you?'..... all because she couldn't get the kids channels on tv!!
Anyway, all's well that ends well - and I'm back online no worse off - good job it did go off I think, else I might have been tempted to post a few comments on another thread..... just as well
Thanks for thinking of me though - but all is well
Julie xx

Oh WOW ... you really know how to turn a little 'ole storm into a drama Julie
Seriously, I'm glad you are all well. I guessed you probably lost your microwave broadband rather than just a power cut. Our internet is the same, comes from a repeater on the tallest mountain down here, fine for getting good coverage but a stupid place to have a repeater in a storm.
Nice to have you back anyway, you were missed.

Well, I'm very pleased to be back.... However, hubby has tapped his barometer (almost an OCD habit
) and apparently, he's never seen it so low - meaning that we're in for a bad night - now, that could mean wind, rain, snow, I'm not sure, but I've just had a mini lecture on how the air moves through a barometer & records the reading...... and I didn't understand a bloody word!
Ho hum......

Glad you are back on Julie.
I was just looking at your post count though and was quite amazed that you only have 357 - I thought you'd be up to about 1,000 by now.....
Yet MW has over 200 since December. So she must be a lot more gob...er 'chatty' than you (how is this possible?
)
(Oh and that other thread has hopefully calmed down....)

MMM, I think you mean that it 'appears' that I'm butting in on a lot more threads than I actually do..... see, and I actually don't....Millymollymandy wrote:Glad you are back on Julie.I was just looking at your post count though and was quite amazed that you only have 357 - I thought you'd be up to about 1,000 by now.....

MW, however, well she just gets around everywhere!
But I think if we were to have a gobbyness competition, it would be a VERY close call - my email inbox/outbox is testament to that as we seem to write a mini book to each other every day.... MW, if we 'chat' this much online can you imagine our poor hubbies ears when you come for a visit? They'll be bleeding after a couple of hours
Anyway...... look at how many posts MMM has... talk about pot...kettle......

As much as I hate to agree with you JulieJulieSherris wrote:Anyway...... look at how many posts MMM has... talk about pot...kettle......
Although MMM has been posting since 2005 she still racks up 175 posts per month on average.
MW is about 200 but you are only managing 51 pm and myself about 55 pm.
Maybe we have better things to do ?
Tony
