I know it hasnt got anything at all to do with being self sufficient, or maybe it has! HOPEFULLY I will be making some music of my own before too long and as it is an accoustic guitar I dont need any electricity to do it!

Guitar lessons.
I am having my first proper guitar lesson in about an hour! I am really looking forward to it.

Re: Guitar lessons.
You will have some sore fingers this evening!
I learned guitar for years and loved it but I haven't touched my guitar since I met OH. He has been both a teacher and a professional guitarist and somehow it put me right off. I still have my guitar and think I will play one of these days - it was such a delight when I first managed to pick my way through a little tune by reading the notes.
Let your fingers harden off and then practice - a lot! You will probably find you will really enjoy it as long as you have the patience to get the basics under your belt.

Growing old is much better then the alternative!

Re: Guitar lessons.
great! nothing like learning an instrument and have fun :)
hope you enjoyed the lesson!!!
every day, practice, even when it is just 15 minutes.
play as long as you can daily, to harden the fingers quicker.
it helps to put rubbing alcohol on your fingertips of left hand, rub it on daily, makes the skin tougher.
good luck and have fun

I used to really look forward to my piano lessons, when i was a kid & really loved playing (even the repetative practice pieces). As berti says, rub alcohol (surgical spirit) on your finger-tips to toughen the skin. Hope you have fun.
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.

Re: Guitar lessons.
I REALLY enjoyed the lesson! I got on ok with the guy who is teaching me and I will be less nervous next week.
I couldnt believe that after just one hour how my fingers and wrist hurt! But he has given me some exercises to do to strengthen my fingers and wrist.
I have my "homework" to do and cant wait for the next lesson!
Thanks for the tip about the alcohol Berti, I will give it a go.
I got a real buzz from that lesson!!!

So pleased you're enjoying it Sarah Jane. Learning an instrument can certainly be thought of as Ish IMO. What better way to spend an evening after a hard day's work than making music?
"I'll never forget that first trip to visit John [Seymour] and his companion Angela Ashe.... Supper was delicious, the stove was warm and I found myself part of a totally different approach to life and living. We had eaten home-reared beef, drunk home-brewed beer and supped extrordinarily delicious home-made ice-cream. Over a whisky after supper John took out his accordion and Angela sang songs."
(Will Sutherland in the Preface of John Seymour's book, The New Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency.)
