My husband made me a greenhouse!
My husband made me a greenhouse!
Says it all really. It's 6x4 and was made with the timber he recycled from the stud partitions he'd built in his old workshop and builders plastic. So the whole thing cost about 10 quid. He's even been clever with the ventilation, crossing panels at the back.
Now to get to the scrap yard and get the wood to build the staging! Then it's on to the new hen coop. Always best to keep the boys busy, otherwise you never know what they'll get up to.

Well done!
Any chance of a pic? We need a greenhouse for our new allotment and have our eye on a pile of timber from partition walls. It would be great if we could see how someone else went about it.

Growing old is much better then the alternative!

Ok. I'll give it a go. There are 4 pics that you should be able to click on to enlarge. They are:
The whole thing in all it's glory, a shot of the apex which should give you an idea of how he did it (it's basically all just 45 degree angles), a shot of the way he did the door frame so that he can attach the shelves to it (when he gets round to it, which is why the trays are currently on the floor!) and a side shot to finish. You can see by the fact that it has a full size external door, how tall it is. Sorry I don't seem to be able to get the pics side by side so they take up quite a lot of room.

Re: My husband made me a greenhouse!
Thanks for those!
Well it certainly looks a lot smarter than a lot of the weird and wonderful structures on our allotments. We are now going to salvage the framework and set about building something (hopefully) similar. If it looks half reasonable I'll post some pics.

Re: My husband made me a greenhouse!

I remember the best man's speech at our wedding. It went something like "Simon could faff for England. If you want any DIY doing you're going to have to wait at least six months while he looks at it, draws it, scraps the idea and starts again, assembles all the right tools and finally gets started. But he'll do it, and he'll do it well. Just don't ask him to fix your washing machine unless you want it to receive Radio Moscow. Electrical, he can't and shouldn't do". Every word of that has been proved right.

Thats a quality bit of joinery, it looks very sturdy.
If you can convince hubby to replace the poly with rigid polycarbonate it would be perfect

Re: My husband made me a greenhouse!
Can I show you ours.
I've never had a greenhouse before, friends gave us some old sash windows for free and my hubby made me this.
We've had loads of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and lettuce this year and next year I'm going to grow lots more stuff in it.
I never knew greenhouses were so fantastic!

That's merely a question of money we don't have, so nothing particularly importantColin wrote:Thats a quality bit of joinery, it looks very sturdy.

Re: My husband made me a greenhouse!
Its all in the planning, you cant rush these things
However long it takes, it`ll probably still be finished long before mine
Sky, your greenhouse looks top notch..nice job.
Here`s mine.. still very much a work in progress
