Hello from Suffolk!

Hello everyone!
I am Kiri! I've already posted a couple of times in "Looks like we made it", but thought I should probably post a proper introduction here too. I'm in my final year of university, studying to become a nurse for people with learning disabilities. At the moment I don't do a lot of growing - living in a flat above a shop, whilst on the income of a student doesn't lend itself too well to such things.
However I do try to make clothes and bags and what have you, and I absolutely love cooking and baking - just trying to summon up the bravery to try my hand at bread.
My boyfriend and I forage for flowers and fruits with which to make wines and beers (and pies, crumbles, cakes, and any other dessert I can think of hehe).
I am looking forward to getting to know people on here over time, learning from you all and sharing anything interesting I find as I learn more.

Hi there, good luck with the nursing, I qualified 13 yrs ago from cambridge and now live in newmarket (god that has just made me feel really old!) Must admit to learning far more since I qualified, just like every other course and job!

Do have a go at the bread making, as long as you've got somewhere warm to rise it, it is really easy, and a great stress reliever I've found.

There are lots of therapeutic skills that you can pick up here that may well help you with your line of work.
Good luck with the remainder of your nursing course, not long and you will be qualified and YES it will be worth all that studying, assignments, placements and wordcounts!!!
Just remember take time out for yourself too

how did your bread turn out? I always love going out when I'm making bread, just so I can walk back in the house and get the full benefit of the smell, I know lots of people think I'm alittle strange

Sheena: Yeah, I'm already finding out all sorts of exciting things to try, both at home and at work! I am sure the tedium of essays will pay off soon enough... I can just about see that light at the end of the tunnel! Thanks for your nice words!

Sarah: The bread was good! Even though I was impatient and didn't let it rise enough... I used this recipe because I thought it looked nice and easy, and it was! I put some rosemary in it too. Despite my impatience the bread was really yummy! My boyfriend and I had a whole loaf of it (I made three from the recipe rather than the recommended 4...) with orange marmalade for lunch. It was a really good picnic on the heath before picking gorse flowers to make wine (another first for me! But not for Tom). I think just-baked-bread is one of the best smells ever, you're definitely not weird!
