There's only two dark clouds on the weather map - and one of them is right above us. Oh blast! It really isn't any fun, lambing in this kind of weather. Don't want to lose too many lambies...

It was almost here today, I was down to my shirt sleeves on my allotment. Was well nice, don't think it got that hot but it seemed in double figures. Its the brightness that I like to see again though, blue skies all over.

We've had spring this last week, but without the temperatures and with an evil easterly wind. The daffies have been half out all this time, just not warm enough yet!

However, it is just 'in the air'; there is something about the light and the birds are all singing away. The soil has dried out too!

We are forecast -6 and -7 tonight - no spring here yet.

Drizzly snow showers this morning and not a patch of blue sky in sight.

That said, the oyster catchers and lapwings have been here for a few weeks now and I always associate that with the beginning of spring. I just love the noise that they make and they are both such beautiful birds.

You love the sound of oyster catchers?????

When I stayed at the SAC, those b***y birds were nesting on top of the buildings. And they don't sleep... So you don't either! Ok for "normal" students who booze the night away anyway, but yours truly had enough of them after a while!

The woodpeckers are out in force, so the insects must be out and about. Here we go!

I guess it is a good thing for garlic growing as they need a bit of cold to get them started so can still get away with planting this late. Not sure if I dare plant a lot out even next month at the present rate of things.
Me, Me.
Today is Vernal Equinox - called the "first day of spring" here in Canada. HA! Everything was sunny and wonderful a week ago. Last year's herbs were soaking it in and then the snow came back and covered them :( And me not paying attention (too much time reading in the sun) didn't even get a chance to cover them.
Needless to say, it'll be at least another month and a half before I'm planting in the ground. But I do have some seeds started.

According to my diary (French, but covers the French speaking countries of Europe - Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg), yesterday was the start of Spring! We had 15.5C here and in Rennes (our 'big' city) it hit 17C.

 I think we managed 3C, when the sun hit the thermometer... More snow showers, and more forecast for the rest of the week. And -4C tonight.

so there is a noticeable something is not normal with the seasons going on here ... it is really interesting to watch from your personal perspectives ... and it always seems to be more noticeable when you are waiting for it to get warmer.

hope it picks up soon ... please keep us posted as i am interested (as i am sure everyone else is).

I've just realised that due to time differences Mandyz probably was talking about the same actual day as me!

We hit -17C last night. The long, cold winter is getting very boring now. And more snow forecast for the next few days. Great

Something not normal? I'm afraid this is still within the bounds of normalcy, if only just. You're right though, long winters are boring. Nice at first, but after twelve weeks of white you get tired of looking at it. (Toni lived in Canada for a year)

Emo Philips; "As a kid I loved seeing that first snowflake of winter. I'd, like, run up to the front door and press my face against the glass to look through it, and I'd say 'C'mon Mom... you know the deal. Let me in now.'"
