Same here. Another 10cm (4 inches) of fresh snow covering everything... And the first lambs due any minute now!

It's supposed to get warmer for the rest of the week. I'll believe it when I see it.

I think our snow is warmer than the last lot

Certainly feels warmer today than it did yesterday and that's a positive start.

David and his dad are outside doing the fencing which means we will be able to be outside without panicking about runawawy children and dogs.

YAY! Progress.

Yes, the sun has been in action and most of last night's snow has disappeared already. So let's hope that was the last of it... I'm getting itchy feet about my garden! How come the snow thaws away everywhere else, but is still quite thick on my veggie plot?

Our snow has almost disappeared and we have three new lambs today on the school farm. Also today flowers appeared on bushes (flowering currant and forsythia) and the daffs are making a bit of an effort as well - not quite open but almost. No leaves on trees yet but its a start. Has anyone else had a bumper crop of catkins though?

Got dumped on with another 20cm of the white stuff last night. And its still snowing. At least its warm; only -3C at the moment :( On the bright side, the Swedish met office said that spring weather might be coming our way in a couple of weeks.

I'd be interest to hear more about that school farm - it's one of those ideas of mine that every school should have a farm! Well, a dream more than an idea...

And digger, as usual your weather puts ours in perspective. -3 would most definitely NOT be considered warm here!

There are 2 school farms near us.

Its actually raining today!!!
Yesterday was very warm.I put a row of cloches (from poundland) over my first early potatoes and managed to mend the door of the plastic greenhouse (I ripped it when I first put it up).No sign of the carrots ,peas or parsnips yet.

The school where I work is a special school for boys 11-16 with severe emotional and behavioural problems. The farm is a Godsend to us and often helps to start the healing process for some very traumatised and abused youngsters. It also helps to teach respect for living things which a lot of them haven't experienced first hand, so as well as learning Rural Science, it has a much more important role to play.

We have sheep (small flock - about 20), two cows, two heffers, Tamworth pigs (2 families) free range chicks, pheasants, veggie gardens and polytunnels for seed raising, flower growing, hanging baskets etc.

My first daffies are out now and there are a few forsythia flowers open and one solitary flower on an ornamental cherry. The willows are starting into life and the weeds are flowering away happily! We even didn't light the fire yesterday as we don't have a lot of wood left.

Good to hear that the value of school farms is recognised at least for special schools. I always think all schools should have farms, to ensure that kids know where their food comes from, and that it is hard work to produce it... Maybe that would install a bit of respect for it in them from a young age, and cut down on all the valuable food wasted in our "civilised" countries. (Wishful thinking? )

Back to the topic: It's the wet, wet weather now... Need wellies again to get in and out of the house. But at least it's warmer
