Throwing sticks at trees now if that is not action I don't know what is.

Dave is downstairs with Anthea Campbell, who has been one of our camera operators, filming a nettle haggis recipe. She also helped with some of the editing and direction.

We have also filmed a short about wild garlic today. I think in total we have about another 10 clips or so waiting to be edited to go up. If I get enough time over the week they will be put up then.

Where are you getting the music from? If it's not fully licensed, either because you've paid for it or because the music was released under something like a creative commons agreement, it might be worth considering that, especially as the site picks up a bigger and bigger profile (The Times? That's cool!).

Might be a reason to look back in that thread we had about music to see who could rustle up a backing track or two!

Yes good point wulf, the intro track is fine as it a song that Dave wrote and his band performed. The wurzels and the other song smokebelch 2 are tunes that have been comercially released. I was not sure about the legalities of using music. I mean if you are not making any money you can't pay royalties? - What is the law concerning using other peoples music?

If we used music that people from here had produced and gave us permission to use then it could benefit both ways, more exposure for the musicans and no tricky legal complications for us. - I think this could be the way forward. We could include weblinks to each of the musicans sites/blogs in the titles. And is that a gutair I see in your hand

There is a lot of unauthorised use of music that goes on and, in many ways, that's a very good thing for the world of music. Unfortunately, the lawyer-ridden, gold-hungry part known as "the music industry" doesn't seem to think so and thus has done a lot of hard work on prosecutions and cease and desist notices.

Also, it arguably fits with the oeuvre of this site to use music that is freely shared rather than touching the forelock to big business by resorting to use their products!

Yes, that is a (bass) guitar you see me with. If you send me a link to a short movie and some direction notes, I could knock up an MP3 or OGG file to send back to you. I've never done anything quite like that before but it would be an interesting experiment.

Cool - just seen this clip at last. Aren't you too the cutest pixies?

Well done, gave me a giggle seeing you poking the tree to the banjo music. Now if only we could have you chasing a pig or two, C4 might get interested!

As I understand it you have to pay a performance fee to the owner of the copyright, which is usually a record label who will want their pound of flesh. In the case of independantly produced music the copyright owner might just say "yeah, oK" if they like the idea, and in any case wouldn't sue unless there was a likelihood of getting damages. Labels are not so logical or reasonable.

I think yes getting bands to compose stuff is the way forward. - Perhaps you could come up with a theme tune wulf just for starters? Although I quite like the funky monkey tune, it is not actually that relevant. Just a few seconds we would need but something that is upbeat and dare I say a bit poppy to get peoples attention and help the site name stick in there head.

I would have thought that the wurzels would not mind there song being used, perhaps I could find them they live around here somewhere

Yeah, you're best off composing your own, or using music which has been composed for you - that will stop you to some extent being sued in the future when you have money! - Sorry but that's how cynical the world is! At the moment they won't sue you, but later they might. My family is from the world of music and it is a real minefield - th only way so far as I can see to keep safe is to make your own. Sue

Andy, a questioning word of warning. If and when we get some national attention the tendency of slackass journos will be to use us as the heartwarming story about west country whackos. It might be better not to feed that any more than we have to if you want us to appear relevant and modern (although I'd personally pay good money to be thought of as neither!).

Then again, perhaps we should play up to it and get the message across once the laughter stops!

We are both originally from Northampton so I don't think we will be made to look like west country wackos

The clip that I put up was really just for a bit of fun. It is the one with the most 'action' on it. the other stuff we have filmed should be more informative and when the rain stops (Thursday I believe) we will film more on the allotment.

I think that it might be difficult not to be seen by the general public as anything but a bit odd, hopefully that will be the hook.
